Discovery 3 Brake Problems-Resolved |
|
Hi All
I thought I would follow up just in case anyone is interested.
My problem turned out to be the servo, they were both TRW new servos and it was the second one ( both supplied by RTL group on ebay I believe), the first had the pin floating around in it the second one they sent looked good but was duff and not holding any vacuum. They did refund to be fair.
So well fed up by now but then I had a light bulb moment..
From the engine rebuild last year I had purchased a second hand servo and master cylinder but the guys doing the work said it was from a range rover and not discovery (my fault I guess brought on ebay) and the ports were on the left and not the right so I put it to one side, so on finding out the second servo was duff I fitted this one and ordered some braided hoses and connectors and fitted the range rover unit.
Brakes bleed, great pedal and once bedded in great pedal response. I had upgraded to cross groove and drilled discs with V8 disc upgrade so now well pleased with the performance.
Hope this helps if you experience the same problems.
PS Great shout out to forum member Bungle who lent me his scanner whilst trying to sort the problem.

Thanks for the update. I am very interested in this problem and solution.
I have a RRS with similar symptoms. Brakes work effectively, pedal hard with engine off, but when running there is too much travel and pedal creeps to the floor. ABS pump seems likely culprit, but a headache to replace with required coding. And how frustrating to change it with no improvement.
I am hoping that a new servo is the answer, as a fairly easy fix, and worthwhile maintenance anyway. A few months ago I had MOT fail for servo fault on another RRS. Brakes were good, but no vacuum held after switching engine off. Chris
