Discovery 3 radio/cd not working, no sound

My Dicovery 3 radio/ cd stopped working, no sound at all, headset still appears to be working, Land Rover said the amplifier wasnt working, so we purchased a new amplifier, fitted it, still no sound, low power reading on the headset led, any advice would be welcome

It seems a bit more complicated then what happened to me (CD not loading or playing any sound), but it is worth a shot to do a simple thing: disconnect battery and wait 5 minutes then connect it again. It cured the problem on my radio.

It sounds like one of the modules on the fibre optic system has stopped working.

All the infotainment system uses a fibre optic loop system (M.O.S.T.) to communicate with each other, the modules include

integrated head unit
Harman Kardom Logic 7 amplifier
Rear seat entertainment module
Traffic Message Channel (TMC)
Touch Screen Display (TSD)
Television tuner module
Bluetooth unit

Obviously you can rule out the ones that aren't fitted to your vehicle.

If one of these units fail then it breaks the loop stopping all of the system, finding which unit has failed can be difficult as ideally you need a fibre optic loop and M.O.S.T. Connector to be able to bridge each unit individually thus completing the loop.

When mine system went down it was the TMC unit in the rear quarter panel.

Here was my problem. http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic28687.html

What have you got fitted have you got a touch screen sat nav ??. But as lee157 has said it sounds like one of your ecu's is not responding to complete the f/optic loop. You have changed the amp so you need to look if you have TMC and or Bluetooth fitted in the rear drivers side quarter panel and check them out.

I have a small f/optic loop that I just plug in to test the system out if it boots up when inserted then that ecu is the problem one.

I had the same problem a year ago, and like you couldn't work out what the problem was. I was told by dealer it was amp so changed that and no difference. The only way to find your fault is with the optic loop that Flack mentioned. Try getting in touch with geoff (site sponsor) he's not far from you. Mine turned out to be a faulty sat nav screen. Good luck Thumbs Up

Hiya, I have the same problem with mine, all seems to work... Radio changes channels, sat nav screen works, loads cd and you can watch it playing the track, have also tried plugging in ipod into aux units in the back but there is no volume on anything, it's like it's broken, doesn't work from the radio front or the steering wheel, does anyone know of someone who would come and look at it/ test it or somewhere I can take it to get it looked at please. Or if anyone has the answer, even better! Many thanks Smile

I have had exactly the same symptoms and was persuaded to have a new amplifier fitted. That did not fix it and I nearly bought a used head unit. Then I found an old bulletin, on Topix I think. It describes various symptoms including these and the problem is caused by a corrupt "FX file". It took my garage several attempts to restore the file but it did solve the problem.

I have this, but there is audio from playing a CD, but not the radio. Is this a fuse issue?

And started working again. Rolling Eyes
with a occasional Bailey Unicorn Valencia tintent

...and an equally black SL350
