They do seem capable of serious miles, they also seem to hold their value very well.
I’ve got a mate with a Colorado too it’s a 3 door one and got to admit I quite like it in a tough old tractor kind of way, remember him spending some money getting the underside professionally sealed when he bought it because the chassis was good, thought it sounded like a waste of money but probably not I suppose!.
I think I’ve decided I don’t want another L322, I’ve had a few and want a change, I will probably get a test drive in a Toyota but I’m not too keen so I think it’s really going to come down to a D4 vs an L405, not interested in the Sport, I don’t like the look of them either mk1 or mk2.

Thought I’d update, I’ve now test driven a D4 which I really liked and a Land Cruiser which I thought was alright but not amazing.
Going to try and find an L405 that’s in budget and not miles away to compare against them and I’ve had another car suggested to me to try by a friend now too, the Mercedes GL/GLS Class, I’d not really even considered them before but one thing that puts me off is they look huge, even compared to a D4 or L405.

It depends what you want. If you want a solid and competent off roader and a car which won't let you down, buy anything but a Land Rover unless you can get one fifty years old which has had all its faults ironed out. The new ones are over complicated crap - all of them and the new Defender is going to be worse and the new CEO will not be able to do a thing before he is sacked next year

There are only three proper offroaders - the G-Wagen, the Land Cruisers and the Grenadier

Reliability seems to be a notable issue with the XC90. Gary

There is a reason ISIS uses Land Cruisers and not Landrovers because even if there were garages in the desert, they would be incompetent and overloaded with demand.

As a business car I could not rely on the D3.
As a family car for towing caravan and horse boxes it ticks all the boxes, so I still keep it.
I would not buy a D4 because of the crankshaft issues.
For my business use I bought a KIA Sorento. Two years 30000 miles.
One set of tyres, and front brake pads so far.
Boringly reliable and predictable, but when anyone asks me what car I drive I always say my Discovery 3.

Chickened out of a D4 in the end, went with a Land Cruiser 2.8 D4D Euro 6, as much as I think the D4 is a nicer car and the V6 a nicer engine I got worried about the potential for crankshaft issues.
The L405 is lovely but thought it was a bit too nice for what I wanted and I'd have had to have upped my budget even more to get a Euro 6.

It’s been good so far, the interior is ok but it’s not as luxurious as a D4 in HSE trim and nowhere near an L405 but it’s not by any means bad, but doesn’t feel as upmarket.
Engine is a bit lacking to be honest but again if you’re not really pressing on it’s not something I’ve noticed, on the couple of times I have floored it, the fact it’s a big 4 cylinder shows bit for day to day driving and 90% of the time I’ve been driving it I can’t complain at all, no issues to report but I’ve only done about 1500 miles so far, it’s got just over 70 k on the clock.
