Picking up my new disco tomorrow, any tips? |
|
I am picking my 54 SE Auto Monday, do I need to check anything or do anything before I leave the dealers?
I have never had a 4x4 before so do I need to know anything. How do I know if the software is up to date?
Getting the engine remapped aswell so hopefully should help with the MPG, I will be travelling approx 40 miles on motorway and A roads, I will be happy if I get near 30mpg, will report back tomorrow. Also a member of avforums.com

Get a practical run through on the systems & show You how to lower & raise the spare wheel. Did you think I would leave you crying,
When there's room in my D3 for 7,
Climb in here Joe we'll soon be flying,
I can go just as fast with 7.

I'm sure it will be fine.

congratulations! at last
have a coffee and sit fiddling with every button to make sure they all work.
check they havent swapped the satnav disc for an older one/scratched one, and that the spare hasn't been nicked already.... - stratstones did with mine!!!!!
remember you've always got 30 days if there are issues "its probably a virus, you'll be right as rain in a few days and if you're playing sport try to favour the other leg"

Congratulations! Definitely check for cosmetic damage, as once you drive off the lot, they'll blame any cosmetic issues on you. My D3 had a scratch on an interior panel - I pointed it out to the dealer and it will be replaced free when they get the part in.
Also make sure that all the things that are supposed to be there are actually there (ie all the floor mats, spare, jack & tools, etc.).
The main point is to address items that could be blamed on you if you take the car home and come back the next day. If anything mechanical or electrical, etc. is wrong with the car, they'll fix it without hassle, so there's not really that much of a need to ensure that every interior light works and that the CD changer changes. However, if you go home only to discover there's a scratch in the leather of one of your third-row seats, you run the risk that the stealer will tell you it wasn't there when you took delivery of the car.
Whatever you do, just take all the time you need - everyone will be trying to rush you through the process, but asking the stealer to leave you alone for half an hour while you run your checklist and inspect the car is perfectly fine and takes up none of his time.
Good luck!

Well, picked it up this morning, had to wait about 90 mins while they finished it off and did the re-mapping. Managed to get 28.6mpg on the way back, 40 miles, mostly m'way.
Nice and smooth as expected and the stereo is good enough for a 'standard' model.
Only prob is I tore a bit off the cloth when fitting the dog guard, it slipped and ripped a bit I could always get it repaired but I think it will be getting abused anyway with the kids and the dog. Going to Whittingham races on sat with some friends so will give it a proper run then.
Thanks for the advice.

Had it a few days now and enjoying it more and more, using the wifes Focus for work to save my diesel but will be giving it a good run on Fri and Sat.
Loving the re-map, I never drove it much on the test drive without the remap but the salesman could tell the difference when he filled it up for me, it seems to go well when you boot it. Also a member of avforums.com
