Loss of Power and Engine Raspy (video/sound included) |
|
Hi All,
My first post and unfortunately a problem one!
Our 2007 (140k miles) landy has developed a problem.
When driving uphill (under load) around 2k revs or more we have started getting a very raspy/vibration noise from the engine.
Standing in idle and revving produces no such sound, it only happens when under load (around 2k revs and over).
Video: https://youtube.com/shorts/jsd-E1RwxGs?feature=share (really sorry for bad sound but listen out for a lumpy running.)
Any advice would be very gratefully received.
I have it scheduled in for a scan on the weekend to see if there is any error logs, currently no engine/warning lights on the dash.
Cheers
Damon

Good morning and welcome to the forum. It may be a good idea to introduce yourself on the introduction section
I've had a listen and its difficult to make out. As it kicks in when under load it tends to point to a turbo issue. Let us know the codes when you get them read and i'm sure the knowledgeable folk on this site will have some suggestions.

Its possibly telling you it wants a good vigorous drive to burn off a clogged catalist and carbon, when it is going through this procedure it will lose power and sound throaty It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Hey Guys, thanks for the replies!
I've taken a new video from inside that might give better sound, gave her a bit of welly too!

Clutch seems fine, had new plate year or so ago.
So a vigorous drive later... drove in pretty highish revs for around 15-20 mins in both directions of my journey (even had a local resident giving the 2 fingers!).
On the way back got a little hairy as I seemed to lose brake pressure!? (not sure if related)
Will await the scan tomorrow otherwise!
Cheers

Have you checked all the turbo/ intercooler hoses and connections for leaks/ splits / hose detached etc ? Or even the intercooler itself may have a hole in it ….Charge air leaks in these are usually accompanied by some residual oil leakage, lack of power, and very noisy like yours is. To me, it sounds like you are losing boost pressure somewhere, which may not show until under load. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.
