Front and rear diffs leak
Hi all
I’ve spotted a slight leak on front and rear diffs. Dear one is a seal. Front I’m not sure.
Have taken garage and been informed that “diff sweat” or “LR sweat” is the term for it and it’s common and fine.
It’s not bad enough to drip on the floor. It’s just damp.
I’m not sure if it wasn’t already there or if it’s recent. But I’m sure I’d have spotted it last year when I was under the car a lot.
I did replace the diff oils and the breather cap upgrade last August
Wondering if anyone can advise please
I repositioned the breather cap and checked it has an open airway. Blowing in it with my mouth over the neck it is very very difficult. Not sure if that’s normal? Or if it should allow air through easily?

If you have checked the breathers, the diffs could be over filled.
remove the oil filler plug oil should not run out, these diffs are filled with a set quantity not until oil runs out of the filler like most carsAndrew

I think you'll be fine. I've measured the oil in and out of the diffs, and the correct volume is millilitres different to 'fill to spill'. I don't believe it'll make any difference.Richard

Is it fair to say this “diff sweat” is ok to ignore providing no drips and twice yearly top up / check?Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

Unless it's obviously dripping, a little seepage is not harmful.Richard

For the small amount of oil required, change it at each oil change.
