Pre Heater

Got a 2005 HSE. Can anyone tell me:

a) What the pre-heater does/is?
b) How to make it do it.

It's sort of mentioned in the manual, but not in a way that helps.

I'm hoping it warms the car up quicker...has to be the slowest heating car I've ever had.

Have a look further down the tech section and you'll find a topic called webasto heater. Have a read through it and look through the rest of the forum for further disscusions about it. To keep it short though it doesn't work no matter how hard you try unless you try the radio trick which works but could damage the heater/car. However a solution is being developed by BN.

More confused than ever now. What do Land Rover say about the fact that this function just doesn't work? How can you have such a high profile car with something that doesn't function - at all?

I have written so much on this item I don't really want to put it in again. Please do a search for Webasto or Pre-Heater and all will be revealed. It has been a bone of contention from day one. It will not work remotely until the 2009 models.

I am working on a fix with Webasto right now and have been for 6 months. It is not easy, but it is done and now needs proving in trials.

Hello John, welcome to DISCO3 Smile

Do a forum search for "preheater" (possibly "pre-heater") to find previous discussions of what the heater does and how to encourage it to do some neat tricks Wink

What build month is your HSE?

Pre Heater is automatic below 8 degrees. Helps warm up the engine and thus warm air into the car.

Unfortunately there are some manuals a menu setting and tech docs on LR Tech Info site that explain how to set a timer to get this working... that bit does not work unless you do tricks with the radio.

LR say it does not work... ie they forgot to add certain essential items to the hardware and software to allow timer setting... just they forgot to change the docs and the menu setting Wink

I wish there was a button that I could just press to make the pre-heater on my D3 run for 30 minutes. Then I could nip out in the morning, press the button, and after I've had breakfast jump I'd be able to jump in to a nice warm D3.

However, I now need to sit in the vehicle, turn on the ignition key, trawl through the settings menu to set the start time etc and then go back in the house for breakfast.... Not the most comfortable option.

Or do you? Set it up the night before and then just turn the radio on in the morning before it's due to start, or unlock/lock the door within 10 minutes of the start time.
Not sure if either of these work but it's just occured to me that they could, it remembers the last set time and if it hasn't operated it remembers it's been told to turn on at that time, so if you wake the system up it could work.
A few tests to try, okay so it means being around your D3 before the time you set it for but that could be a good thing, no lying in in the morning or you'll have a cold D3 Razz

I will try it tonight, and unlock/lock the doors first thing - I'll let you know.

I don't think the unlock/lock will work but if you set it up the night before you should just have to pop the radio on in the morning, worth a try anyway

Can't swear, but when I was experimenting for Webasto initially, I am sure I was asked to try that one and it certainly did not work on mine, but who knows they are all different it appears.

I thought the radio trick didn't work on yours anyway?

Yes it did when the heater error was cleared that the LR software sent mine into when we were playing. That is why I say careful to everyone, I cleared mine, but it cannot be done by LR or Webasto.

What was the effect of the error apart from the radio trick not working? What I'm getting at is it seems PCs can run with lots of small bugs/errors but they carry on as normal but the error is there. If these errors just mean that the radio trick stops working then the situation is just the same as not using it in the first place. Does this make sense? Rolling Eyes
