Always has on mine when "stone cold", but only for the first 25m or so Mobyone -- no drama.
May have something to do with the torque convertor and fluid getting going.

On my LC100 ,the vehicle wouldn't move at all for 1 second after selecting drive, if it had not been used
for a week or more -- put it down to the same torque/fluid situation.

These are "big parts" that are slower to respond than small cars, when cold.

With regard to "transmission lash" which I have noticed, the very low freewheeling rev count adds a lot to
this effect ----but reduces fuel consumption by 20% over my LC100 V8,especially in stop start and non-constant
driving situations. ZF boxes also change more rapidly and don't "labour" much, which makes for a noticeable
kick if you're heavy on the accelerator, and have just come off the brake too.

mate we have about 29,000ks on ours and get that same thing, it clunks quite badly when it does shift which is disconcerting. LR stare at the roof and whistle to themselves while thinking " is this pest still here..."

We have been back to the dealer about 8 times with the dreaded response hesitation problem and I have raised this shifting clunk problem too. they actually took our car to Sydney for 3 weeks to right over it. I got a months lease paid for, a set of new tyres and wheel alignment during that vist but the issues are still there and LR wont do a bloody thing grrrrr Evil or Very Mad

cheers

I had a problem with my auto box which I should perhaps mention.

Initially, I noticed on starting the vehicle from cold, that although 1st gear was engaged as normal when the accelerator was pushed down, sometimes rather than selecting 2nd the revs went high before eventually 2nd gear was engaged. This event occurred a maximum of 2 times before the gearbox settled down and the vehicle behaved normally. This problem occurred perhaps 5 or 6 times and I put the problem down to the vehicle being cold.

The second problem, I noticed was total loss of drive after driving 2 or 3 miles. This was solved by switching off the engine and restarting. In doing so park is selected and drive reselected. I had this problem occur 3 times.

Finally, in selecting drive nothing happened and LR Assistance had to be called out.

The problem was quickly diagnosed as water from the air conditioning washing the lubrication off the auto box linkage, resulting in drive not being correctly engaged and solved by the application of some lubricant to replace that which had been washed away. The technician said that he had come across this problem on other vehicles.

So perhaps the linkage should be checked to make sure it is not sticking.
