So can’t possibly be true, usual DM bashing, and for what purpose
Hopefully a leftie paper will show it and you can repost it as truth then and then be righteous about it...

Not difficult to say "lads and lasses" instead.
Even right wing knuckle draggers ought to be able to manage that... Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I didn’t say it wasn’t true, I just highlighted the fact that it was only during meetings. Which, in my opinion, isn’t a big deal for an equal opportunities, tax payer funded employer. Outside of meetings i expect less pc language is resumed.
PS. Nothing “leftie” about me. I’ve never voted Labour in my life and have no allegiance to any political party. I am happy to admit to being very much in the centre, on something’s I’ll lean towards the right and others to the left. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Many are, yes. My own father, who served 28 years in Her Majesty's service, still refers to black people as ni88ers, and uses similarly inappropriate terms for other foreigners, gays, etc. Ardent Tory voter his whole life.
I've known many people in the armed forces over the years and many have a very unreconstructed attitude.
Is everyone in the armed forces a right wing knuckle dragger? No. But if you pulled names out of a hat, I'd bet you'd find more rather than fewer that meet that description. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I'm interested by the idea of a war on political correctness mentioned in the topic title. That sentiment shows a total lack of understanding that political correctness, albeit a misguided approach, is an attempt to redress the inherent imbalance in society. To think that there needs to be a war says more about the white men who complain about it, than it does about the idea of political correctness itself.
For example, society is a mix of approximately 50/50 male/female but look at the percentage split of power and authority in all walks of life. This is historic and is a mix of physical power - men are generally stronger and more violent than women - and religious power - women are generally held in low regard in the principle Abrahamic religions, certainly placed below men. Funny that, what with the books having been written by men.
Whilst I'm sure that many women entering the armed forces wouldn't be too vocal about the term "lads" being applied to all, there is a degree of "playing the lad" in order to fit in. Women have a hard enough time in the armed forces without complaining about being called a lad. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Having spent 14 years in the services, I agree with astonbuilder's statement. It is not a crass statement in any way. Only someone who has not served in the forces would make that type of remark. 2013 RR Vogue SE SDV8

Who says I haven't served....
Of my family that served. Two are racists (one of whom retired as a Colonel), one is a communist the other became a pacifist. Amongst them one was awarded a MC.

I was in the green kit for 15 years, worked with people of all different genders, opinions, races and beliefs. There were 1 or 2 instances of very mild discrimination that I saw but they were soon resolved and everyone moved on happily. In my experience everyone was treated equally, and the women had no objection to being labelled under the 'lads' umbrella as it just meant they were fully 'accepted' into the fold.
This whole current attitude in the armed forces is, in my personal opinion, being fed from high up in the ranks and the people actually on the ground don't give a monkeys left testicle about lads, lasses, or any other interpretation of anything. As long as they do the job, pull their weight and just get on with it nobody cares. 2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

In meetings, which are often documented and recorded, it’s not acceptable any more to refer to mixed sex groups as lads. Is that really such a big deal?
The armed forces are very good at adapting to changes in technology, equipment, warfare tactics etc. etc. Yet some think a small change in the use of language is something that should be derided. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
