D3 Crossover replacement .. anyone notice more turbo noise ? |
|
Hi Guys,
My disco has had a blowing crossover for months now, and a close friend has a 2 post ramp and is keen..
Que, free weekend.
Armed with new flexis and new rear arms and new brake pipes, we set about body off....
all went, A1 infact.. nothing broke, nothing snapped, and very happy with the welding of the exhaust etc....
However, once it kicked up, all was well... and it sounded sweet as it has for some time... BUT it wouldn't rev over 3k revs (static and warm) ... and was sucking the intercooler pipe flat.
I checked the actuator rod, and it was free, nothing was taken off regarding intercooler or pipes etc..... and then when i tried driving it... would barely do 30mph. (no boost)
There was nothing jammed in the inlet, no rags consumed etc... as we were both there together doing the job so i know what was and wasnt done...
It didn't show any codes other than EGR codes, but the cars 06 and they have been blanked, and have been stored for some time....
I then took an intercooler pipe (the one to the inlet) off and give it a good rev and it seemed to boost after that and is driving fine... BUT i seem to notice a fair bit more turbo noise,
Is extra turbo noise after fitting aftermarket flexis normal ? or is my turbo actually on it's way out and the blowing crossover has been hiding/masking the noise ..

I had the cross over pipe replaced on my D4 recently, not noticed any noise from the turbo, in fact it is driving alot quieter. Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Did you stick some tissue/rag over the open pipe holes when doing the work?

Sounds like you might have dropped something in the turbo and it's either not spinning or broken up. Joe

some of the aftermarket hoses are thinner and you can hear more turbo noise. Andrew
