The other option is the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour (assuming you need 265 X 60 x 18). They are supposed to be one of the strongest on the market. Has anyone used them? I'm due for new rubber in about 5k.
cheers

I think silent armours are about 18mm oversize.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

carver 3 - I was told that the silent armours are within the 15mm range and load rated at 109 so are legal - but not OK if you plan to drive over 220kmh (outside speed rating Im told) - not that my disco would go that fast, specially with my wife in it.

My Disco might go that fast but only if SWMBO was driving. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

When you say 'oversize', is there maximum size for the Disc 3 and what is it?

They are referring to the legally allowed increase in overall wheel diameter. In states like Victoria Vicroads only permit an increase of 15mm OD to what is stated by the manufacturer. For the OEM 18" tyre fitted to D3's that is 763mm (30") OD and 15mm on top of that would be 778mmOB (30.6"). So you need to find a tyre with OD no bigger than 778mm otherwise you will be illegal and more importantly your insurance could be voided by your insurancer. Also load rating and speed rating is an important factor to also take into account when looking at repalcement tyres.

From QLD transport regulations regarding tyres.
Quote:
Speed and load ratings
The speed rating of all tyres must be:
• a speed of at least:
for an off-road passenger vehicle – 140km/h
for another car (sedan, station wagon etc.)
up to nine adult seating positions or a car
derivative – 180km/h
for another motor vehicle – 120km/h
• the vehicle’s top speed, if lower.
Load ratings of tyres must be at least equal to those
specified by the manufacturer on the tyre placard fitted
to vehicles made after 1972. For other vehicles, the load
rating of a tyre must be capable of carrying the part of
the vehicle’s gross mass carried by the tyre.
Quote:
The rim diameter may be varied from the standard size
but the overall diameter of the tyre must not vary by
more than +15mm or -26mm.
I hope this clears up the Qld regulations, other states do vary.
D3 tyres - LR = min 109, max diameter = 778 mm, SR = min 140 km/hr (N rating)06 TDV6 SE with many LR and after-market extras. Used only on weekends and trips out west.
