Replacing original Harmon Kardon head unit

Hello all,
I’ve traveled through the forum for a while trying to find guidance on replacing the original head unit in my D3 S.
it has the HK system, but no Nav or Bluetooth. I have a Pioneer HU from my last car that is fitted with Apple Car Play and I’d like to install it.
Is it really that difficult to do? I now know that the HK HU is connected to the amplifier via fibre optic, but is there not an interface / loom I can buy to connect the two?
I’ve briefly looked into replacing it with the newer HK interface and screen, but that seems equally complicated and expensive.
If there is already a thread about this I apologise, but please do point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.

You can buy a bypass loom from connects2.
Have a look on eBay for pointers.

Thanks for the response Pete K.
I've had a look on eBay and found a few options for bypass looms, I think I have found the one I need.
My understanding is that installing one of these looms will mean that the amplifier will then be redundant. Will this be the case?
Given the quantity of speakers HK have in the D3, I'm not confident that my head unit will be up to the task of powering them.

Thanks in advance.

Yes the bypass looms will bypass the Amp and looking at the number of speakers the head unit will be working hard.
I also dont think the sub woofer will work and fitting an amp to run it seems pointless.

Why dont you want to use the control units from connect2 ?

While the amp and speakers are Hardon Kardon is the head unit also HK - I thought it was a Kenwood (maybe Alpine).

We do not have S or HSE models in the earlier RRS - just RRS and the level of trim is determined by the engine - eg 2.7TDV6 has basic trim, the TDV8 has a higher level of trim - then the petrols with top of the range with most things the Supercvharged.

So I have basic trim - with the 6 stacker (6CD 565) with HK amp and speakers and a subwoofer.

I’d like to get Bluetooth and Apple car play use again

If you use the connects2 kit you can connect your new head unit to the stock amp and speakers and have bluetooth and apple car play and also keep your steering wheel controls
