I agree. Mine aren't physically fixed in, but are held in place due to the height and sloping back pinning them against the rear of the seats. One has an escape hatch, the other doesn't, but I could always drop the rear seat and drag the crate through if the worst happened.
Crates are essential as it's better than having them loose in the boot or on the seats and being flung about.
