Hitachi (or Dunlop) compressor cylinder head bolts
I have a Hitachi that I am rebuilding as a spare, but the threads on the crankcase for the head bolts seem very worn - sins of a previous owner I suspect...
Has anyone been successful in repairing a similar issue? I am thinking of tapping out to M5 and loctite-ing some M5 studding in with nyloc nuts to retain the head ...
The original bolts appear to be an extremely coarse 4mm self tapping thread - probably because on the plasticine alloy material of the crankcase ...
Any thoughts or experience ?

Studs and nylocks should do it. You could use an epoxy putty to gradually pack the holes, once cured then pop on the head and drill the pilot holes. Then dill to the required diameter then tap them to take the studs.
