Quick tyre question........

......... re weight ratings.

Skippy’s tyres are 225/55 17 97Ws. Fair enough so far. But the tyre of choice also 101Ws for the same price.

Any advantage in buying 101s over 97s? Would the ride be a tad firmer? Would the sidewall be a bit stronger?

TIA to all tyre knowledgeable ones out there. Bow down Bow down

Thumbs Up

If I remember correctly the load rating should be 111 1090kg per tyre For a 7 seat discovery. This is the recommended by Landrover (and hence your insurance company in an accident!).
101 is a rating of 825kg
97 is a rating of 730kg

Regards Steve

Ah, ok. Laughing
In reality you'd not notice a difference, but logically they would be stronger, to handle the extra load Thumbs Up

We’ve been very good in lockdown, back to running with SWMBO and watching what we eat like a hawk. Since piling the weight on in Aus, I’m down 1 1/4 stone. And a lot fitter.

My body is a temple, and for once it’s not the Temple of Doom. Thumbs Up

Pretty certain load carrying unrealated to ply rating, which is stiffness of sidewall, then you have sidewall and thread plys

this explains better than I can
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-car-ty...yre-sales-

On the Volvo I swapped Continentals for Nokian both load and speed rated same but the Nokians a much stiffer and thicker sidewall

Unfortunately they don’t do 225/55 17s in them. Trying to stick to “stock” size so that I can use a winter tyre as a spare in the summer, and vice versa. Sad
