Breakdown Cover
Just got my RAC renewal quote, seems a bit expensive ( especially the 'Arrangement & administration fee of £66.00) So just thought I'd have shop around.
Any bargains to be had out there ? I'm looking for personal cover to get car home, not just the nearest garage.
Thanks

Can't fault the AA and because my sister works for the NHS I can get a discount through
https://healthservicediscounts.com/
I get cover for 4 family members with home start, Relay, onward travel, basically everything other than European cover and it costs me £14 a month.
And as a bonus they now run LR Direst so I have had them out on occasions.

Im with Green Flag and have no concerns with them, cost me about £80 last year for full cover recovery to anywhere in the country.
Couldn't fault them when I needed them last October other than that sent a flat bed truck that wasn't quite rated for a Discovery2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

RAC for around £70 - Homestart, Roadside Assistance, Nationwide Recovery and includes Europe.
This covers the car rather than the person.
Via Broker Direct in Bolton.

break down companies are particulalry bad for price walking (increasing cost every year if you do nothing)
Best thing to do is provide you current provider the competiters price. (e.g AA v RAC - they are within 1p of each other for new customers)
And see if they will match. If they won't, move to the other company.
The AA do a good 2 year deal for those who are already a customer
P.S Lloyds deal via AA - I wouldn't really recommend though

Who provides the recovery etc.. Green Flag, AA, RAC ...?

I have full blown AA cover with my Lloyds bank account and also have full UK & European cover with Driver Guardian which gives vehicle repatriation to any UK adress or home with replacement similar car if required delivered to UK or Europe, hotel accomodation and free personal repatriation if needed. Costs around £115/Year. Also covers Touring caravan.
Friend of mine was travelling down to France a few years ago towing their caravan with their Rangie and his Becm caused the car to immobilise. DG had a 2 months old new Rangie on the back of the recovery truck which they delivered to him, took his own Rangie to an independant of his choice in Birmingham for repair. Paid for local hotel in France for them (B & B) which they stayed overnight whilst waiting for the DG recovery to arrive from the UK. When they got back home 3 weeks later, his own Rangie was fixed and DG sent a truck to pick the loan car up from his drive.Relocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021

Lloyds give you "special" phone numbers for you to ring AA
The problem I had with Lloyds/AA (in July? 2012) was that I rang that special number. Wouldn't answer for 45 mins and then hung up/terminated the call. Tried several times.
I phoned the normal AA number and they answered straight way.
My father who was with me by this point is a direct AA member so used his account rather than a bank deal)
Maybe the AA and Lloyds hadn't reagreed the corporate deal at the time?

As above it did work better for us when both cars were out of warranty as covered both of us in both cars (1 back under manufacturer now)
also covers us both for travel insurance
next year things change so will have to double check its still worth it
