V8 de cat

Good morning I am thinking of having the cats removed on my discovery. Has anyone done this on there v8 and is there any benefits to performance or sound Cheers Steve

Not sure if it would pass the MOT emission check if cats removed.

If the CATs are missing when going through the MOT, it'll fail for not having them.

I have heard, but can't confirm, of some simply taking the matrix out of them (by breaking them up) and just having the empty boxes in place. However, not sure how they'd perform re, emissions.

Given it has upstream and downstream O2 sensors I would have thought gutting the cats would have triggered an engine management light unless you fool it somehow. To be honest I am really not sure you would gain much from doing it anyway.

It won't end up as SVR performance so removing a centre box is more use isn't it?

I beleive what they do is add an extension piece to the sensor hole so locating the sensor further away from the gas stream, so it sees less gas and assumes it is still clean enough?

Beware of sports cats...

Before all this tosh about changing the exhaust system upsetting the MOT, I did have a wrx impreza where I took out all the cats replacing with a single sports cat.

It will pass but needs to be hot to get the best out of them Thumbs Up

Optional rag was required as I had a 5" exit Shocked

Just remove your centre box (restonator) like I have. No issues with MOT and sounds loads better
