DG … whilst you are absolutely spot-on, OP has been lurking for over 2 years.
I think he's allowed the "Dominic Cummings" defence for saving a few squid by bumping his post count to be able to post an ad.

Well if he hadn’t said he was going to do it, I might not have noticed!
Like I said on the last page, the easy way is to buy an advert then everyone’s happy. I’m trying to be diplomatic, DG will just pull the trigger and exterminate 😉

Good man, thanks ...Gareths diplomacy pays off 8) ....while sympathising with your circumstance, we must remember that others will have bought an ad in good faith ...it's only a few pounds and it helps support the site 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Never mind the politics section here,, we need a dedicated Stripping Section. Peeps can discuss which items can be stripped, how to strip and in what order to strip. Suitable family friendly photos would be allowed. Even video clips of stripping action. What could possibly go wrong?
Oh, and a different bit for removal of car parts from a stricken Disco.

Not dead yet!
So, where are the adverts to appease the vultures? Well, my LR specialist where the D3 is currently sat gave me a call - they've had a bit more of a dig about out of curiosity.
Coolant system - Thermostat housing blew.
Fuel leak - perhaps not the HP pump, the fuel pipe that goes over the engine seems to have burst / melted.
So we are going to replace those, and see where we go - I'm happy to spend a small amount of money to see if we can salvage her. Still no guarantee that the engine survived the high temps caused by those two items failing.

I've had my D3 for over 9 years and during all that time I've run it with the coolant cap loose so that the system does not pressurise as I reckon 15 psi is too high on some of the cooling system components.
The engine runs cool regardless even if towing on a hot day and the fan does not cut in at all.
I understand, being a mechanic that coolant systems are pressurised to raise the boiling point of the coolant but these engines seem to struggle to get warm and stay warm, my FBH even runs whilst driving on the coldest days in the winter.
I've seen many an engine over the years destroyed by being overheated when plastic housings, pipes,
hoses and radiators have burst when they get a bit of age about them with the sudden loss of coolant that the driver may not notice until too late.
I run all our other cars in the same manner and never had a problem although I've had long discussions with other mechanics on the subject who say it creates hotspots etc.
Maybe others know different but here is a case with this D3 suffering due to pressure and old plastic components, I'd be very surprised if the head gaskets survived the overheating but hope like the rest of us that it won't be total termination of the whole engine.
Keep us posted on the outcome please.
Thanks,Cobby.
