Battery light, generator field fault
Hi guys, got the red battery icon displaying on my dash. It’s supposed to in first an mot tomorrow, is it a fail?
Checked alternator, it’s kicking out 13.9v whist engine is running. This light only appeared when I took the front console apart to clean the heater matrix and when I refitted, light was there.
Any ideas what can cause it alternator Ahmad been changed in the past by me, battery around 5 years old. Any help appreciated

Clear it and the restart the car to see if it comes back on, and if it does if it's the same code.

I'm not sure if a red light is automatically a fail or just an advisory.
What's the voltage when the alternator/battery are under load. i.e with lights, heated screens, a/c etc on?

The battery warning light is NOT part of the test and will not be a fail
As long as the car starts ok to TEST just make sure battery good if poor and needs a jump start tester could refuse to test
The UK MOT test now includes a ‘Malfunction Indicator Lamp’ check. The examiner is now required to visually check that warning lights for safety restraint systems, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring systems and anti-lock braking systems are not permanently illuminated.
