Rear Brakes Sticking On

Anyone had problems with rear brakes sticking on? Problem occurs when car is washed then garaged overnight. Next morning the rear pads are rusted to the discs. Have to rock the car in low ratio, this releases brakes with a bang and a rusty imprint of the brake pads can be seen on the discs.
Have tried a short journey after washing the car to dry the brakes off, but fault still occurs. May have to stop washing the car!!!

It will be the parking brake sticking on. This has been reported before.

Hi Gareth.
Will this be the discs or the parking brake which I believe is in-board of the rear discs?
Is there a fix? I have reported it to the dealer but no reply yet.

I think the parking brake is a small drum brake on the inside of each rear disk. I have not stripped one down, but your dealer should be able to under the warranty.

A couple of points:

*Don't forget to ensue the dealer completes an EPQR for the sticking brakes-very important

*Best always after washing a car to run it for a short distance to dry of the discs. otherwise they will rust. Bit lkie testyour rakes after fording a river.

Hello Yosser,

On my old TDV6 the rear brakes were binding after about 4,000 miles. Took it in and they stripped the brakes and totally cleaned the discs. Apparantly there is a build up of brake dust which makes the wheels drag. Effected both the performance and consumption and you could really feel the difference once it was sorted.

As for the sticking brakes after washing, that happens on my present V8 and also my previous TDV6 and Audi Quatro.

Think it has something to do with putting a wet car into a warm garage. Never seemed to happen when I left the car on the drive where the wind could dry them out.

Worst thing you can do is put a car in a garage apparently other than for theft prevention.

Northamptonshire is to motorsport what Hartlepool is to car crime.
Sorry but I'd rather have locked on brakes than no brakes at all.

Oh boy we have crime here sadly. Some nice people picked up one of my 110's and carried it over my wall. If that was not enough, they started it and stole a Ifor Williams horse box. The problem was the horse was tethered to the rear of the box at the time.

Final problem, I have a 6 year mark on my insurance for doing absolutley nothing wrong because I had to claim for the car, rather than give it away and still pay for insurance. Now we have video survalliance instead of part, with time and date stamped. The LR's are bolted to the ground at night and the gates are touch sensitive with sensor lights as well, plus lots more. No the LR's won't fit into the garage.

Just as well I don't have a horse cause there's no way it would beat the Disco and motor bike to the garage. It would have to sleep on the drive.

My garage at home has my classic boat in it, so that beats the rest, plus nothing would fit in the stupid garage, its so narrow.
