^^ thats not uncommon as a central connection point on older (non combi) central heating systems as you can connect the boiler wiring, stats, timer, control valves all in one box. (the grey and orange wires are coming from the 3way valve)
Some grommets on the incomming cables wouldnt have been a bad idea though.

Ancient - D3 TDV6 S - Tonga with Ebony, 20" Stormers, satnav & DVD
I think that's quite good tbh. Self contained box with neatly arranged connection blocks.
I've seen some where same effective connections were done using chocblocs stuffed in a void chiseled in the plaster/brick behind the carrier the controller clips in..

It’s looks good until you release that:
a) the box comes with a connector block for multiple live, neutral and earth - it’s underneath all the wires, so he didn’t need to cram them all into the left-hand connector block.
b) the lid lists what the connectors 1-16 should be used for, and none of them align.
c) he didn’t tighten some of the screws, so the wires are actually loose

I pity anyone buying one of the new chuck em up quickly and cheaply new builds by the big boys.
Our plumber seems to spend most of his time repairing O ring leaks on the plastic plumbing that is 10+ years old. Some of the wiring he has photos of when he's needed to get access to the pipework is frightening. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

A few err decades ago working in a physics research lab one evening I needed an extension lead. These were the days when people made their own up on basically a block of wood.
First one I picked up, not using that, second one WTF, third one ditto.
Finally found one that I was prepared to use, following day took 6 all with the plugs cut off to the lecturer who was the departmental safety officer. Told him I would do the same to any others that I come across of a similar standard.
20 of the new fangled prewired 4 in a line sockets bought and were all issued in one day. 100 of them bought and they were all issued within a week. Not sure how many of the prewired 4 in 1 sockets was finally bought.
Was slightly bohlsy in those days, some people might say I still am!

Best of it is that in the old days lives were red, yellow and blue, black for neutral and green for earth. When changed blue became neutral and black became live. Now can anyone see a potential problem here? Still refer to lives as red yellow and blue in supply industry.LR 4 se
