Changed BCM now no start
OK, It's a Rangie Sport L319,but Im hoping for some help here.
TDV6 auto, 2007.
BCM had a problem (no rear window up or down).
Changed BCM for second hand one.
Flashed latest SW, and synched the CCF.
Now no crank.
Everything else is good - but no crank.
No "Immo active" warnings.
No fault codes.
Just no crank.
Any ideas?
According to RAVE, the start signal doesn't go through the BCM.
I've had a quick look, and can't see anything amiss.
Any ideas???
Thanks,
Mike.

Agree with Pete K, can you get hold of the key from the donor CJB vehicle? If so it might be worth a go
Edit:
But you might need more than just the donor CJB yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

I thought you could only code new virgin units to the key?

The hope is that the donor vehicle key is already recognised by its own CJB, but I think it might be VIN locked anyway, and if so he'll need probably all the donor car's ecu's as well.

But if the immo was active, I’d be getting a fault code and message on the dash.

You would get faults displaying if the BCM matched the car but as it doesn’t, you likely won’t. Normally you would change BCM, KVM, ECU, Clocks and keys.012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

What a stupid design.
Theres a major fault, but no codes!
Incredible.
(I'm an ex JLR systems engineer, and this kind of idiocy is part of the reason why I left)
luckily, i found the fault on the PCB, and fixed it.

It’s not idiocy it’s security.....they were designed purposely that way to reduce theft.....
When they were designed component substitution was the preferred keyless theft method so JLR designed it out....

The idiocy is the lack of diagnostic information!
The car won't start because the Immo is triggered.
But there is no outward sign of the immo being triggered.
There is no fault code.
Nothing. Nada.
So the diagnostic guy is now looking for a "Fail to start" rather than a "not configured immo"
In all of the fault codes that this thing can detect, there isn't one for "Immo active"???
What a fabulous design!
Yes, it's supposed to be good for security - but what about fault finding?
You can't check for a faulty part by substitution, because that part then becomes VIN locked.
How many people have had a new BCM and didn't actually need one?
We have a case here where ONE module that contains the security info needs to be changed - it's not beyond the wit of JLR to come up with a system that will allow the automatic realignment of the replaced module - other manufacturers like VW manage it very successfully!
But to trigger the security immo and not tell anyone about it is a really unintelligent move.
And anyway - all you need to steal a car is a replacement set of 4 modules!
Sorry - it's a rubbish design for these reasons. This design doesn't actually increase the security, it just costs more when you need to change a module.
Regarding security, LR really did a good one on the latest keyless entry - here we have aftermarket modules made specifically to stop the keyless system from working / being hacked!
That's why I think the latest Defender is a pup - simply too many electronic modules to become obsolete. 80 ecu's to go wrong. JLR didn't create anything truly new and iconic - they just made another disposable SUV.
Here on Madeira, we have no JLR dealer - the dealer lost the franchise because they were dishonest. So I don't have the ability to take it to the dealer for diagnosis, because the nearest dealer is in Lisbon, on the mainland (and we don't have a ferry).
I have become the de-facto most experienced JLR engineer/mechanic on the island simply because I'm the only guy who will even look at these cars.
We don't have many LR3/RRSport here for this reason - I have three customers with them - two RRS, one Disco3. The owner of this car is wishing he had bought something else - he is actually on another smaller island. He replaced his very reliable Rangie Classic with this thing and is wishing he had his RRC back. The largest majority of LR are earlier cars for this very reason.

JLR have their faults but to be honest, they would fit a brand new module, programme it with SDD and it would all be fine. What you want to do is use a second hand BCM, reprogramme it and expect it to work. It’s also not their fault the dealer lost his franchise for being dishonest. What is worse, a dishonest dealer or no dealer??
What made you suspect the BCM was at fault in the first place? I can’t say I know how the rear windows work on a Disco 3 but on a 4, I think the rear windows and locks are controlled by the front door modules.
As the electronics in the Disco and RRS are Ford and BMW derived, I’d imagine they have exactly the same issues should you replace the BCM.012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)
