So what would need replaced to sort this ?
Surely not the whole gear selector module? ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

LRA have, they now carry the spare transistors and capacitors with them and fit them at the side of the road when they fail. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

There are so many clever people on this site, that have fixed , sorted, rebuilt, can’t believe this whole thing has to be replaced just to get a light working

Thread on AULRO says the engineer who designed the unit states the failure of the LED is related to an IC on the board that fails and thus, the fix is not simple at all. There are also threads that cover off the failure of the locking mechanism built into the unit that prevents you driving the vehicle as the park-lock won't disengage.
The 8 speed isn't so grand after all (says a jelous/not jealous 6 speeder).

You may be lucky, as you have been, buying secondhand. But I doubt anybody, you buy from on eBay would refund your money just because the light around it didn’t work, so you would be left with another perfectly functional gear selector, with no light

Unless it was described as faulty they would have no option but to refund and if they didn’t EBay would do it for you - providing you paid through PayPal. Buyers rule on EBay not sellers I’m afraid. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Hi All,
I have been actively trying to fix this, I have found the burned out component but I'm still having trouble identifying what brand or type of chip it is, when I have a fix i'll post it up here.
Cheers
