New purchase, D3.
Morning all, I’ve put down a deposit on my first Land Rover, a 56 Discovery 3 HSE.
So, it has great history and spec. The belts are currently being done before I collect next week.
My question is what now, what are the dos and donts of new ownership??
Essential mods / upgrades, tips and tricks that maybe ones that you didn’t learn for ages that will make ownership even better.
Many thanks.

If they are doing the belts make sure they change the oil pump at the same time. Critical they do this.James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Is the water pump there also? It is on some but I’m unfamiliar with the disco set up.

Personally I had both water pump and oil pump done when he did the belts. Won’t tell you the outcome 7 weeks later but hey ho .... oil pump if it is the old design has a weak casing and can crack causing the timing belt to come off. Engine then is destroyed.James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Asked the dealer if they are replacing the oil and water pumps with the belts, they said only if there’s signs of wear.
I’ve asked for a quote to get them done while they’re there regardless of visual condition. Seems sensible given the potential for catastrophic engine failure!
Cheers.

And that’s why I asked for a quote , if I’m not paying for it I doubt it would get done.

Show them the photos below and if the oil pump doesn’t look like the new type(bottom one) you don’t want it
It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Well, I’m waiting to hear back from them as it’s on around 98k, the history went up to 70k odd regular as clockwork and had a huge amount of work last year about 80k i assume. I’m hoping that the belts and pump have been done already and I can confirm with the garage that did the work, just need to know who it was. But they haven’t got back yet.
Also, they’re apparently waiting for a price from LR for the two pumps, is that wise???

Cheers for the input.
Still waiting to hear back on the pump price etc. However they are going to email me the pics of the pump when it goes in for the belts.
