Idling on a Sunday (the car, not me)

Hey all.

My D3 is parked up at the moment with a failed MOT (park brake faulty). In the interest of keeping the engine and battery in reasonable condition I'm idling the engine on the drive.

How long would you do this for each Sunday? Maybe 20 mins is enough to stop it flattening etc?

Thanks!

I’d put a battery conditioner on it. If the engine is not warming up properly, it could cause condensation to form inside.

Why not fix the handbrake and use the car?

An engine running at 850rpm will create very little heat and will it no good, 2000rpm possibly will, but it will upset your neighbours and be cheaper to buy a decent battery charger Thumbs Up
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

When mines not in use I’ll indeed just plug my CTEK in and don’t start it

+1

It’d be cheaper and less damaging than letting it idle...
If it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

Can’t see that doing it much good either without any load on it.

Fix the park brake. Plenty of info on the site Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Cheers for all suggestions of fixing the handbrake, I hadn't thought of that. Rolling with laughter

Work commitments and family stuff will keep it off the road for a month or so I til I have a day free to replace both rear disc pads etc and also open up the EPB module. In the meantime using the Freelander 2, albeit that MOT is tomorrow. Fingers crossed....

Anyways, I'm off to buy a CTEK charger, thanks for the advice.

Hi

Also in the forum shop they have the ctek adaptor lead that plugs straight into the 12s socket

https://www.disco3.co.uk/shop/tow-electric...c-p45.html

I fitted a towing socket on the front of the house which makes life a lot easier , drilled through the wall and fitted the CTEK Which is in the hallway

Wish I had bought the CTEK mxs10 as that provides a 12 volt supply handy when using the gap iid for updates

The old girl is on her third engine...
* first ran a bearing (design failure in original engine)
* second had a failure of the water outlet on top of the engine (pls check yours)
