great pics as always Del and sorry to hear fingers were getting a bit chilly but I'm sure those doughnuts soon warmed them up - note you didn't admit how many you and Mrs D scoffed! Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Well it was just above freezing but dry, we needed fuel.
Will post pics of today’s fun and frolics after evening scoff. There’s a MooMoo Burger joint ( https://drive.google.com/file/d/1k6LW-7oPm...xmClQ/edit ) 100m from hotel so it’s going to get a visit. It’s great fun translating the menu from Russian to English over the sound of SWMBO’s stomach rumbling.
Assuming I survive her reading this.

They do but this looks far, far better. Besides MDees is 300m away in the Gallaria mall next to Moscow Station, this is just next to the hotel.

Considering we’re 2 hours ahead at the mo we’re just about hitting the rumbly tum sweet spot.
Moo Moo officially make scrummy burgers. Plus all that mental energy translating the menu was a waste of effort as they handed us an English menu as soon as we sat down. We obviously stand out as tourists.
Proof of the pud.

Now looking at restaurants close to our next hotel. It’s hard work all this travelling malarkie.

These are some of the magnificent columns of St Isaacs Cathedral. I must confess I knew nothing about the WW2 history of Leningrad, absolutely nothing, but SWMBO reading to me (as I sorted pics) from https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Leningrad opened my eyes a little. I thought the damage to these columns could be small arms & artillery but maybe not.

Better view of the cathedral.

And then tromped the few km back to the hotel, another 13.a bit km day.
Now settled in with a glass of vino, Chronicles of Riddick just starting. In Russian of course.

Just a few pics from today, whilst pretty woods & forests out the window, and old villages, I didn’t think to get any pics. Will do better on the next train, promise.
One thing very noticeable is how the villages we pass have virtually no cars in them. Maybe the odd tractor or Lada Riva. Really poor cf the cities or the rest of Europe we’ve passed through. Reminds me of E Europe with horse & carts, just didn’t see any. You also get the feeling that peeps are getting ready for winter. Wood sheds are full, fires are lit and everybody is well wrapped up. Mind you, not surprised, it was this plus a good bit of windchill.

Saw a couple of old trains at stations, managed to snap one pic of them.

We started a new game on the train, I spy .......... T. And the obvious arborial objects were banned. It’s going to be a really long train ride to Beijing.
And finally to Moscow. The station we leave from on Tuesday is on the right behind the crossing sign. We’ve checked out the supermarket so will be well stocked up, well as well as what we can carry. My priority is Vino, plenty of food on the train & in stations, SWMBO thinks my priorities may be wrong. No problem, all the more vino for me.

And down into the Metro. We used the self service machines, resulting in a queue as the machines were really slow, plus we weren’t quite sure what we were doing.

And a bit of a hike to our hotel, not too bad and nice to see what the neighbourhood looked like. We’ve been upgraded to a suite, very nice it is to, and got lounge access, basically all day coffee, fruit & cakes. They do vino & snacks from 5 pm to 7pm, but we have to phone down. Now what’s Russian for “redial button”
View from the room, that’s too close for the Kremlin but we’re going to walk to that tomorrow. Assuming Tom Cruise hasn’t blown it up again.

Vino time in 8 minutes. And they have Russian Champagne. Got to be worth a try.

It’s a bit of a torturous process to order vino, we might be stuck at 1. Will get SWMBO on the case.
