If I were you and you need a car pronto, I'd invest in an old, small, cheap runabout with a long MOT. Anything really, so long as it's cheap and gets you from A to B. At least then you aren't stressing over transport issues and you can take your time deciding what to do with the Disco when and if you get it back. You could probably then sell the runabout for what you paid for it.

Yep, bangernomics. What I’m doing with my 11 year old Jazz. Costs me virtually nothing to run, ins is a snip as is tax and over 55mpg on a run. Plus totally reliable. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

UPDATE FINAL OUTCOME My seized D4-question regarding repairs

I needed something reliable, so naturally something not Land Rover.

So I came home with a 2004 L322 V8 Shocked

Its a well looked after car, beautiful condition 9for the age) and the seller was a lovely chap who gave me lots of spare parts to fix the 1 or 2 issues.

I have to say, I thought the D4 was incredibly comfortable, but this is even better. Veerrryyyy smooth and quiet. The biggest difference is the quality of the interior, meaning no rattles and creaks over bad surfaces, which is a bug bear on the D4 despite me rectifying as many as I can.

So we will see just how ruinous this will be!

Pics below.

Well, the garage will be calling Warranty Direct today to give them the diagnosis and if approved then they will go ahead on the repair.

The garage have already booked it into the workshop on Monday for a stripdown as they know the warranty people will need them to do that anyway in order to give full approval.

I have thought long and hard about what I will do if all fixed, and have decided that I will be keeping it. So while the body is off I will be having the rear arms replaced along with the brake pipes and have silicone hoses fitted for the turbo gubbins.

If I should get anything else done, let me know!

Wether I will trust it fully again is a different matter, but I have invested so much time into making what I want alrteady, I think I would be foolish to get rid just because of this.

I run one of these as my daily run about the D3 is the wife's car/ dog walking motor.
Treat it well and it will look after you get the cam cover gaskets done about 30mins per side rtv the new gaskets into the cam covers just to be sure.
If it's not been done replace the thermostat with the lower temp modded version and that's about it

Funny you say that!

One of the issues is leaking cam covers! The seller gave me ALL the parts needed to do the job as he was planning to do it.

Having read about the job, I am a bit worried about doing myself and have been quoted £280 all in to get them done at an indy.

While I have no issue taking the coil packs etc off, I am worried about the difficulty of manoeuvring the cam covers off, as I have seen its very fiddly, and if not done perfectly, the leak can end up being worse.

This is a very simple job if....
You remove the x2 nuts and pull off the plenham cover at the back of the engine bay it gives you loads of room with no issues it really is a simple job

I am seriously tempted......

The sealant (RTV?), do you use it round the whole of the gasket?

I have read you need to use it on the "half moon" bits, but not all over?

You fill the channels in the cam covers gaskets with a thin bead of rtv then insert the gasket into it then run another bead over the gasket with a little extra at the half moon end then refit.

It's that easy I would suggest new rubber grommet/washers for the cam cover bolts as yours will be hard as nails and brittle and tend to leak all on there own

The kit he gave me already has all the grommets and washer etc.
