It could do with some screen wash, and eating that big chocolate bar in the glove box before it goes out of date.

Ok, so it'd be a stupid move, that seems to be the consensus. So what I need is to somehow be able to afford a D4

Hi Chuck
Do the FL2 mob know you're posting over here.
I left them a few months back and got back into a D4.
FL2 was a great motor, but now feel I'm back on 'mother planet'.
Just do it !

If I had the funds for a D4 I don't think I'd be hesitating. But the fact that I don't have the funds for a D4 make me think I don't have the funds for a D3 upkeep!

I cannot see how a D4 will be any cheaper to run than a D3? they are all getting old now.

A D4 is even more money when it goes wrong.
Not that different on the outside.

£11k seems quite a lot for an MY10. WeBuyAnyCar is offering me £6.5k for mine - I know they pitch low, but I’d be surprised if you needed to pay much more than £8k for an MY10. 2014 - D4 2010 HSE Nara Bronze
2012 - FL2 2009 GS Stornoway Grey
2001 - VW Passat Estate Inky Blue
1999 - Ford Mondeo Light Blue
1998 - Rover 25 Red

We run both in my family and the FL2 is less hassle, lighter in the drive and is as comfy as the D3. I have the D3 for the stuff I end up carrying for the family as well as being allowed to tweak it with whatever gadgets I want. Dave
D3 2006 HSE, Cairns Blue - gone
D4 2016 SE, White

I’d agree with the above. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
2010 D4 HSE (A bit bling)-GONE
2014 D4 HSE (Almost too bling)-GONE
2015 D4 HSE (A heated what?)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Written Off)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Surely the last!) PD1881 rims-GONE
2017 FFRR SDV8 Autobiography (now semi-retired)

Chuckalicious... like Ronp I've changed from a FL2 to D4
I havent stopped smiling all week since I picked it up.
MPG on the dash is only a couple of miles less than the FL2 so IMO is manageable
I've just checked today a d a full main dealer service is £495 and a full belts service is £695 also at main dealer.... again not much worse for standard main dealer prices than the FL2
Yes lots of other stuff on a D4 which is pricey if it goes wrong but I'm just going to do bits piece by piece as funds allow.
Look for a D4 preferably 2011 facelift as they that bit better than early D4 IMO
I'm loving mine beyond belief
