This is a general enquiry, not relating exclusively to Discos.
I always have wheels balanced after fitting new tyres., and have alignment checked from time to time.
I heard today from a friend with an Audi, that she had new tyres fitted & wheels balanced; BUT the tyre fitters did the alignment with the, very worn, front tyres fitted. They were illegal, I measured the tread 1.5mm !
I have a feeling that the alignment should have been done after the new tyres were fitted - is it material ?
NJSSAm I Gammon or Woke ? - I neither know nor care.

Probably wouldn't have made any difference. Out of preference I'd have had the new tyres fitted first though. Richard

My alignment place said they sometime can't get the alignment perfect on worn tyres or at least they cant take away the effect of worn tyres.
They recommend having the alignment sorted with the new tyres, as they are then nice and square.

Always with new tyres.....
For air suspension it needs locking in Tight Tolerance Mode. Hutfields in Botley have an IID Pro and do it properly. Avoid any Kwik fit cowboys Visitor from fullfatrr.com

May I ask what tight tolerance mode is? Just had mine done by Kwik fit after having Pirelli AT plus fitted, it has made a difference, can I see anything with my iId??

TTM is a mode that locks the air suspension to stop it fighting itself when adjusting the alignment rods under the car to get the 4 wheel tracking spot on. A number of plug in units can do it. The IID Bluetooth that a lot of us have can do it. A lot of Kwik fit type places don’t have them and simply leave a door open and tell customer that does the same. Absolute and

I bought the 2 year plan for alignment with Kwik Fit and have to say more than pleased with the service.
I had mine checked 5 times at 4 different branches and each time was impressed with the service.
Only once was it checked when needed as I had just had the front arms replaced.
As I drew into the car park I used my IID to put the suspension into TTM and removed it after the adjustment.
So my 5 checks with adjustment cost me less than £27 each and peace of mind for 2 years
Yes we do all knock Kwik Fit and sometimes rightly so but my 5 visits were fine and not once did they try and up sell me anything.

Some Kwik fit type places won’t have the kit to lock it and then fob the customer off / can’t lock it properly

Yeah sure did.
I would imagine most places with the Hunter system won't have the capability unless specifically catering for Land Rover products.
I know of none around these parts.

Interesting I’ll give them a call and see what they have to say, I have the iId BT I’ll have a look round the menus to see where TTM is and maybe take it back for a another check, it is improved since the alignment but I guess it may not be 100%

I had my tracking done by Kwik Fit in October, they tried to upsell me the 2 years unlimited tracking for £100 including that visit...… I stupidly refused
they did make a huge difference when they did it though as the before and after print outs off the Hunter system showed how far it had been out but they left the boot open when they did the tracking, at that time I hadn't heard of the TTM.
its a bit of a nightmare trying to find somewhere that has a 4 wheel alignment platform, and now clearly more of a nightmare trying to find one that can do TTM.
So where are we supposed to go if we don't have an IID of our own ??2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

The tracking is generally done using the rims as a datum, not the tyres.. so it makes no odds what condition the tyres are in for the actual tracking.
obviously you may have some issues when driving depending on the condition of the tyres, but the wheels will be correct, just the tyres which will cause an issue..Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

I’m sure that Guy Salmon at Thames Ditton use Kwikfit for Hunter alignment.

If the tyres are not sitting true on the road, due to uneven wear, the alignment will never be correct
Some higher end machines require the operator to recheck the toe on turns if the alignment is too far out at initial setup
