| Are these too much tyre?! |

I’ve just been quoted really well for a set of 285 70 17 yoko geolander GO03 M/T!!
These are my idea of tyre! But will they fit without a lift kit?
I seem to remember a thread on here where a chap had a set 285 70 17 BF’s and said it can done without the lift rods if your prepared for a tiny bit of scrub at full lock.
I’m happy to get lift rods but will I drive on these ok in the interim? I want to get them fitted tomorrow.
PS: I’m running standard D3 17 alloys. Landrover discovery 3, 2005, TDV6, manual, 5 seats

With DM on this we tried in the early days of the D3 and failed (Before lift rods)

Because America, there isn’t 17” listed (since the petrol needs 18” wheels) but this list will give you some kind of idea what will fit and what won’t, http://johnsonrods.com/johnson_rods_3_004.htm. Theirs increase lift by 2.5 inches or 63.5 mm.

Ok so if they rub... is it on an undrivable level? Or can I suffice for a day or two? Landrover discovery 3, 2005, TDV6, manual, 5 seats

I'm using 265/70/R17 tyres.
In my experience, it's not the diameter of the wheel that's causing the problem; it's the width.
I can lower the car to Access level, drive it around a car park (avoiding full lock) and it will not rub.
Even if I lift it to OffRoad level and turn the steering wheel to full lock (and going in reverse) it will rub.
Yours are 2 centimeters wider and 2.8 cm larger in diameter than mine. I'd say 285 70 17 is too much tyre for a Disco3, even with a lift.
Another thing to contemplate: my average fuel consumption (roughly 10% city, 80% highway, 10% heavy off road) with the original tyres was about 10 l / 100 km. Bigger, heavier tyres mean I'm now at ~13.5 l / 100 km.
