Trouble is the last servoce was about 10 months ago so I doubt you would have a leg to stand on unfortunatley.
How old is the car, is there any warranty on it, fingers crossed something will come up

Rolling with laughter

Sorry. Family comes first. Razz

Paraphrasing the email.

You should check your oil level as per the owners handbook.
There is a oil pressure warning light that will appear, should the pressure drop.
And the best bit:
JLR have no details on what level the oil should be below normal for this light to illuminate.

I am just composing my next email to them.

Bad news indeed, but would it take 10 months from the last service for this fault to appear.

I am not familiar with the D4 , but are peeps saying there is no workable low oil pressure warning, and you cannot check the oil level before a journey because the oil must be warm.

Andi.

You can check the level when cold, it’s just not as per the procedure.

Not sure about checking oil level when cold as my D4's you could check oil level when cold but not when oil was hot.
As for warning light, many cars are fitted with a warning light but by the time it comes on it is often too late especially if you are driving at the time and not just parked on tick over

OK, daft question from a non techie, aimed at the resident techies here but ........

Would the the engine have dumped it’s oil because the oil seal failed or could something in the engine have failed that caused the pressure to build up and the oil to find the easiest way out? Basically is loosing the oil the cause of the engine failure or a symptom?

Interesting point Derek. I did once suffer a stuck pressure relief valve on Betsy, my 2a. She normally has running warm pressure of 55psi, one day on a cold start, it was climbing way beyond that, up to 80psi and I immediately shut it down. On taking filter housing apart, the pressure relief ball was stuck with a bit of carbon jamming it.

I have an oil pressure guage, and could immediately spot the problem, with out one I would never have known until something let go. Nothing got damaged, but they made 2.25 Series engines properly bomb proof! Not a piece of plastic anywhere.

However, your scenario would be impossible to prove on an already shagged D4 engine!

The how it happened is probably not worth pursuing.

The Why it happened without bringing up the warning is worth pursuing, in my opinion.

Since owning the FL2, I have had a small routine for switching off the car, and starting it.

On shut down, I've got into the habit of lowering the suspension, as SWMBO is shorter than me, and I have 3 children, the youngest being 7yo with short legs. Also I have the manual seat, so when I get out at normal height, my a$£e catches the lever and lowers it. Laughing

To start the car, I get in and let it run for 2-3 mins. Then set suspension to normal, before driving off. Might seem a bit of a faff, but it's what I have chosen to do. Obviously not the suspension bit, but I started doing the switch on process with the FL2. Sometimes it didn't like starting and driving straight away. It also wanted approval to pair with my phone every time. Just got used to starting the car and sitting there for a couple of mins.

There's plenty of oil on the floor of my work parking space to show that it was coming out a lot there, and I was sat there for a little while, so why didn't any notification come up. Actually just checked, and had a text conversation with my daughter while I was sat in the car.

During start up, waiting, driving, waiting at a busy junction, driving, and eventually stalling, there was no warning. If JLR fit an Oil Pressure Monitoring light that is to warn when oil pressure is low, then it should work.
