If it's pre-registered, double check which engine it is.
A 68 plate should be a MY2019 with the SDV6 engine (SD6 badge on the back) but there are rumours that there are old stock TD6 engines (MY2018 cars) that were hanging about as stock and never got registered. These have now been registered and are being sold.

The TD6 engine is the one having "oil dilution" problems. The SD6 doesn't seem to be affected...and has more power, more torque and is very nice to drive (especially with adaptive dynamics as an option) Mr. Green

My local dealer offered me a car that was built between Nov `17 and finished Mar 18 on a new reg plate. I was amazed a year old car unsold. It was the smaller diesel though.

I am in the same situation as you, although mines only done 15k, Had Velar for the weekend to try very nice but less room? Dealer said values have really dropped since Xmas, haven’t had price to change yet but not holding my breath on value of mine, they were holding well in October when I last looked 😟

It's advertised as 3.0l SDV6 at 302bhp. So assuming it's the newer one.

Basically in October/November last year I was offered closer to 30K, so was very surprised it had gone down so much. I assumed it was because I've gone over 50K in miles, but maybe everyone is trading in atm so there are a lot about?

The trade in price is the dealer wanting his cake and eating it!!

Your D4 is at an age where they can have a go at £30k+ on their forecourt but if the mileage is a bit on the high side they’ll have it underwritten for £25k+ all day long.

The discount in the D5 is probably there if you walked in off the street as a cash buyer.

Personally I’d stick with the D4. I’ve had a go in a D5 which had a perfectly adequate drive. But ultimately I can not bring myself to spend £60k on a vehicle that in my opinion is not pleasing on the eye. Of course that’s always in the eye of the beholder.

Have you done a webuanycar in your D4? I really like your man lady maths!

Seriously though, it sounds like you want to change, so to look at it from a purely fiscal POV is a little irrelevant. The dealer will always want their cake and to eat it.

The V6 engine issue is no reason to change your car, as the cost to change is far higher.

If you like a D5 go for it. Great car, but different from your 4.

I agree with Gareth, if you want the car then go ahead. If you are not sure then save a lot of money and stick with it. The D5 will depreciate nearly £1k per month, the D4 about £400 per month.... I just extended my warranty on my 2015 for that reason.

The more I look at it, I think extending the warranty is the way I’ll go, with only doing 6k a year I’d rather keep D4 than take such a hit. Had planned on keeping it long term, only crank issues made me think about changing? Confused

If you go extended warranty then check the T's & C's regarding the crank.

According to users on the Sport forum the LR extended warranty does not cover it.

Warranty Direct does?

Hi,
ISTR Marshalls offering £5k off plus "some more?" if you trade in a D4 Question

I was trying to understand the model year differences as have seen a 68 plate demo but it has the solid/button type switches on the steering wheel yet have seen 18 plates with the Digital types controls
Hard/solid type = my17 and digital =my18 onwards
so the demo 68 plate is actually a 2017 model Rolling Eyes

try different dealers for your price to change as know of a 2014 HSE been offered £26k as p/ex

On another note they also said "go low deposit on pcp as expect market to drop out of diesel in 2-3 years so you can just walk away if it does, unless they just wanted the commision on the higher monthly repayments Whistle

Thumbs Up

D4 is a lovely car but the D5 is a step up. However the interior is not as hard wearing as the D4 interior, am not on about seats but boot trim is poor in quality to D4 vey poor wearing
