Inlet manifold cam cover

Can anyone tell me what may have caused this to happen

Went to overtake and it went out with a ping noise......

Seems to be fairly common on The 3.0 for some reason...

There is a TSB about this problem.

Some people have succeeded in getting it replaced for free even with high mileage and outside of the 3 yr warranty.

Seems to always be the right one from memory.

Is caused by the material being too thin when the part was made.

Can't remember the TSB number but will try and see it fI can find it as I had it emailed to me by Lookers in Chelmsford.

Did you manage to find this TSB? I have the same fault on RH manifold/cover and popped into Lookers Chelmsford today to get a copy of the relevant TSB. Mysteriously it is no longer on the system but they were aware of it.
If you could send me a copy or details I would be very grateful! Thanks!!!

No, they can be done in situ. Fiddly

It is a well known manufacturing defect.
Cause: Material thickness and fillet radius of the valve cover not to specification.
You should not have to pay anything.
