Cracked D4 Cam Cover
Following red and yellow triangles and restricted performance - whilst on busy motorway junctions, my local Land Rover dealer diagnosed a cracked cam cover and quoted £5k to replace. Body off etc.
Simce then I spotted TSB LTB00768v2 (3.0L TDV6 valve cover split and/or cracked) which specifies the cause as”material thickness and fillet radius of the valve cover not to specification”. This is a clear design or manufacturing fault and nothing to do with normal usage.
The car is a 2012 model and the VIN is clearly in the range specified in the TSB.
The non LR warranty that came with the car does not list the cam cover specifically and so the company is claiming that they have no liability.
I have raised the TSB with the LR dealer in Cambridge who diagnosed the failure and await their response.
Let’s hope that I can report a good customer experience sorting out this major safety related failure.

Hi, that's a BIG quote for the job, have had to do both of mine this last year, defo didn't cost that much and they don't have to take the body off. I had mine done by a local garage. Have a look at the other threads:

Thank you for the useful response. I have seen the attached threads which, together with your response, give me more confidence and ammunition.
Firstly, £5k is nonsense and secondly that this is a well documented design/manufacturing fault which means customers should not be accepting sole liability.
Will keep you posted.

Any Update on an out of warranty claim against LR
Have read the thread, and having just bought a 2011 WITH the diagnosed LEFT manifold crack, I'm wondering if I should hold off on booking the car in next week?
I've been quoted £890 -ish, but is there a likelihood that LR are taking these claims on board? Mine is clearly out of warranty with LR.
Thanks,
Brady

There is next to no support from LR for this failure despite it being a faulty designed part that should last the life of the engine.

Hi RRBlue,
Did you ever get this resolved under the TSB? I discovered mine has gone (passenger side) on Friday and contacted Marshalls of Ipswich today, quoting the TSB. Just awaiting their call back, hopefully with good news.

Updates
Hello, mine has now cracked. Did anyone get any joy with the dealship? Mine would also be out of warranty. Great fuel for a reply. Seems to be one thing after the next with this car. Never had the issues with the disco 3. Tia

LR will not help you if you are out of warranty, period. It's not an impossible job to DIY (I did my left hand side recently). There is a small advantage to doing both at the same time as some of the shared single use fuel pipes and some of the removal parts are shared between sides.

Thanks for the reply
You were right LR won’t help useless. Will do it myself. Does anyone have the part no for the LH Inlet Manifold? My local motor factors don’t have it so any good sources rather than going to LR direct?
TIA
