No its just less over-priced
Of all the special edition Landrovers, can only think of 1 at present that was worth it and actually offered something over and above standard spec and commanded a premium in residual values, Defender 50th Anniversary
Mind you Min have increase price of Cooper S by some 9k for their 60th Spec edition, spec paint job, stripes and spotlights so perhaps it is a bargain D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

No. If someone was happy to pay the normal price then the special with more kit for less money represents "good value".
Whether one thinks the D5 is abhorrent, over priced, whatever, is irrelevant. The issue is what the price is compared to what they were happy to pay otherwise. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I expected a couple of limited edition colours, perhaps 30 year badging or at least the little mountain range logo from Discos of old. There’s nothing that shows it’s an anniversary model. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

£60,000 and apparently, it still doesn’t justify a complete set of working rear lamps Can anyone think of a single alternative model (at any price) where the bottom half of the range comes with black plastic blanking plugs in lieu of half of the tail lamps?
This is something that anyone could spec from standard (if they really wanted to) or it could even be a tacky dealer “special edition”. Compare this to the effort that went into the much appreciated 25, with its unique interior and outside finishes.
No one’s saying “it doesn’t matter, they’ll sell everyone they can build” anymore. They’ll have to do a lot better than this if they want to keep their Slovakian plant busy in future. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
