Upper tailgate latch takes several attempts to fully open
The only minor niggle I have with my D3 right now is that about 1 time in 5 it takes several attempts to open the upper tailgate. The first attept the gate unlocks and partially opens but then takes some "shuggeling" and one or two more squeezes for the catch to free.
Anyone with similar issues - maybe some minor adjustment is needed.
btw - its not freezing, as other have reported. It does this in all temperatures.

Yes mine does it all the time, bloody annoying! Thought it was just how they are, but got a brand new D3 curtesy car today and thats fine. If it does it jus release the button fully, then press and lift. The first couple of times it happened to me I as wrestling with it for yonks!!

hmm - yeah I also tried the release and re-try option. I'll mention it to my dealer but its certainly not worth putting it in for just that.
Yep mine does that, very occasional it does it in one try, most it's 2 or 3 attempts.

I had a similar problem on a Jag. When I pressed the release it only released the first stage of the lock and a second press was required to release it completely. The dealer fixed it by adjusting the rubber stops that the boot rested upon - they were adjustable by simply twisting them. I don't know if the D3 has these as I am too far away from it to check, so this post may be totally irrelevant. On the other hand it may be a simple fix for you.Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.

Thanks - I'll take a peek about. I just get that sense that something is slightly mis-aligned.

Had a similar problem on my old RRS but it got steadily worse to the point that i couldn't open the Glass lid and finally had to go to dealer where they firstly said it only needed lube. 2 days later i was back and insisted that they replaced the switch. No more probs then.POT NOODLE NAVIGATION CHALLENGE 2010 WINNER

Tailgate switch
Had a similar problem on my 2006 D3 - eventually I was unable to open the upper tailgate. On isnpection it was actually the switch that was faulty. Under the rubber seal (where your fingers go) there is a hinged metal plate with a microswitch underneath. The pivots for the metal (some aluminium alloy) had corroded away completely. Once the corroded panel was removed I was able to let the dogs out by pressing the microswitch .....
Incredibly the whole unit was replaced under warranty - including the housing for the number plate lights which I noticed were looking a bit corroded inside too. Not sure how deep the previous owner went wading.......Got iPhone? It Rocks!

Just wanted to update this thread - I recently changed my loor lock setup to enable all doors to unlock at the same time & ever since the tailgate opens every time - first time- and works a dream. I will try to swap it back and see if it goes bad again. Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond

Hi,
Today my tailgate has decided not to open. I can hear the electric mechanism moving but it doesn't release the door. As such, pressing the master lock/unlock for 3 seconds doesn't help. Unlike other posts on this thread I've never had problems with it getting stuck before. Anyone have any experience with getting permanently stuck despite sounding like it is working? Is there any way to manually open it from the inside?
Thanks
Scott

Any tips on how to open the bl**dy tailgate much appreciated as I need to take the dog to the vet and its just packed up. Landrover Assistance not interested unless there is perishable food inside and Webbers can't sort in for a week!
I think if you press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the dashboard together for a few seconds it should release the tailgate. But I have no idea of how to release it manually if this fails.Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.
