Sounds like the same problem.
Spoke to LR customer services who agreed to pay LR assistance to come out but they could'nt help. So back to waiting for the dealer (one week if I'm lucky) who will then probabaly have to order a part.
Great vehicle but customer care is a disgrace, my last two vehicles were Subarus, 100,000 miles in each without so much as a hiccup.

Answering my own query from a few days back.... the cable had come away from the latch and was replaced with a new and improved unit (under warranty) so hopefully that is the end of that.
It sounds like if you were stuck somewhere (i.e. outback Australia) with this problem that you would remove the internal fascia on the tailgate and activate the latch directly.
