Drop links
Hi guys (and gals),
Any advice on replacing the ARB drop links on the front of my 06 Disco (190,000 miles)?
I have limited mechanical experience, however I have managed to successfully replace the brake pads and discs on the front, the compressor and the cable and switch to open the tail gate myself but that's all I've done so far.
Just wondering how easy or difficult this job is and are there any specific tools I may need?
TIA for any help from all you wonderful LR owners.
P.S. I'll probably be replacing them with Delphi or Meyle if not OEM parts.2006 SE

If you've changed the pads, compressor, and other bits you'll find the drop links a doddle!
I think they're 18mm nuts depending on type already on there, some have a hex centre or a 15mm shoulder to assist removal without the threaded bolt spinning. It will be clearer once you have a new one in your hand!

Having just done this, an 18mm ratchet spanner will help immensely, you'll also need a 8mm spanner to stop the shaft turning while you undo the nut.
I ended up angle grinding the bottom bolts off as the nut would not come off the end of the thread, with hindsight perhaps running a die down the exposed thread before I undid anything would have helped

Cheers Mole374, I have a full set of combi and ratchet spanners, braker bar with sockets and plenty of "FastGas" and a 5" grinder so looking good so far.
No dies but I may be able to borrow some, what size thread would an 18mm nut fit? I thought M10 was 17mm and M12 was 19mm

Much quicker to use a grinder with a cutting blade it'll wiz them straight off All transmission oil replaced
3 flash indicators
All timing belts changed

Thread size appears to be M12x1.75 judging by the bit I cut off in my scrap box, it turns out I don't have a die that size anyway!

Same ref a grinder , but Don’t know why, I couldn’t get a full size grinder in there , so used a Dremel with a flexible connection on it and some thin cutting discs , took about 5 x mins to cut them off

There's a 5" (Slim Jim) cutting disc that will get in most places

Thks and that’s good to know , my grinder uses 4 x inch discs but couldn’t quite get the angle to cut them off so used the dremel instead
Didn’t realise u can’t get slim grinders

Looks like I'll try soaking it in releasing lubricant overnight before I try to get them off, if not loose by then I'll just cut them off with grinder. Go some Stainles steel thin cutting discs.

Wouldn't bother with trying to loosen the nuts, just cut off with a grinder.
Usually easier access cutting the shaft in half first then just cut off.
I normally cut other side of the bar from the nut.
