Under the towbar fitted is another option.
North American trailer lighting function. It's Set to Disabled

Tried a coiled lead today and all works perfect,
Maybe another option D3 57 xs Stornaway grey
D2 02 commercial silver gone but a great servant and won't be forgotten

So, I popped round to Brownchurch today an independent Land Rover garage and explained the problem
They were super helpful, actually listened to me and wanted to help.
The mechanic plugged their unit in and in less than two minutes had the menu up that showed that the North America setting was enabled, he corrected this and everything works as it should now.
I can only assume that the official service centre are either totally incompetent or wanted to charge for all kinds of unnecessary parts and labour.
Thank you all for your help and advice. If I hadn't' know to ask to have the NAS turned off I would still be have the same problem.

One of the springy coiled leads that can stretch if needs be. A bit like the ones found on air brakes on lorries.
