Handbrake not releasing preventing engine starting
I’ve had a couple of incidents in the last month when my Disco 4 MY12 refused to start. I found that the foot brake pedal was rock solid such that it wouldn’t allow the engine to start or release the handbrake.
Is this a known problem? Is it exacerbated by the hot weather?
Today I had to really pressed down hard on the rigid pedal ....and engine started.
I’ve stopped using the handbrake for now...in case one day I can’t get it to release.
Suggestions, thoughts please

Nothing to do with the park brake, just the peddle not moving enough to trigger the release solenoid to get it out of Park/release the brake. As soon as you start the car, the peddle goes down I assume? So then the brake can be released as it’s the same mechanism that is stopping it from starting (I.e. the brake peddle switch not moving enough)Bodsys Brake Bible

Ordinarily, yes the pedal goes down. But on these occasions the pedal itself seems rigid with no movement. As a result it will not allow the car to start or the handbrake to be removed....which ever comes first.
It feels like the pedal is jammed.

Sounds like the servo loosing all its vacuum, pedal will then go solid, although I am surprised there isn't enough movement to operate the switch to allow the car to start.

Have your kids been in the car?
The first thing my lad does when he get in the drivers seat is to pump the brake pedal.. although even then, I've never had an issue with starting..Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

Can you manually push down on the switch so that it thinks you are pressing on the brake pedal?
