The problem with steering wheel leather seems to affect vehicles from all markets - mine in the UK is also 'sticky' and just out of warranty. I was thinking of getting a quote for a leather re-trim from one of the vehicle trim specialists. Has anyone had this done before (not necessarily on a D3) - I'm not sure of what sort of price to expect. There seems little point in just buying a new genuine LR wheel (i read on another thread they were not too expensive - something like £70 in the UK?) is they all go like it eventually. A good quality smooth black stitiched leather would be much better than the Censored stuff LR seem to use - origin unknown Cow Rabbit Aardvark Okapi Confused

Got my new wheel, it is full grain leather rather than split, feels and looks great.

CW, I got a new cowling late last year more by bad luck than good management.

I got a massive rock hit in the screen, bottom right, it hit the edge of the cowling as well as completely destroying the bottom right corner of the windscreen. I'd paid a $20 widscreen premium on my insurance and they replaced the cowling as well as the winsdscreen, no fault, no excess.

very lucky

Contact your dealer and see if you can get the wheel changed under goodwill as its a known warranty problem

What did you get Ian?
Mine is different course grained as opposed to the smooth original.
I just wonder if it is leather or vinyl. If Vinyl I will not be happy.

Anyone know what the new vehicle leather ones look like?

If leather and a new finish I will be happy because it should not happen again then.

In recent weeks, the steering wheel leather on my D3 has begun to roughen. I'm pleased to hear that the "full leather" replacements are now coming through in Oz.

Best Wishes,
Peter

Hi Caver,

My new wheel is full grain leather, still some fluffy bits of thread showing in the sewing but not an issue.

Nice wheel.

Is the leather grainy with two joins at four and eight o'clock?

The one they gave me is like that. Just wasn't sure if it was real leather.
Thanks.

Just smell your hands after you've been driving a while. Good way to tell between vinyl and leather.
