I'm finding that I'm whishing I had spent the extra nad bought a V6TD but I did'nt.
Love my Disco but would like a bit more power and better fuel consumption out of it .
Any ideas? Always wanted one now I have one I have to convince my wife its ok

Hi there.
I bought my 4 litre V6 last December for the special price deal of $63990 drive away.
I looked at the diesel option... but for $11,000.00 you can buy a lot of fuel.
Also, if you look in your owners manual it shows that the diesel is around 2 seconds slower o - 100 than the 4 litre petrol.
Believe me you would really feel those 2 seconds.. it is a lot. The diesel has more torque.. but it is horsepower that provides the accelleration.
I have mine over a 4 year lease and the diesel just won't pay for itself in that period.
We have just come back from 2 weeks in Europe on business and I rented an Audi A8 turbo diesel V8. Wow.. what a car... down the motorways at 180 plus all the way.
Back to your V6.. I have measured my fuel consumption very carefully and have found that the worst i have done is 13.99 MPG around town and the best is 24.28 MPG on a run out to the country and back. Most of my city running is around 15 MPG if I take it easy and don't bury the right foot. Our other car is a BMW Z4 roadster and after driving that the Rover is a slug.. but a nicer drive overall i think.
We definetly get better fuel consumption if we run on Premium.. and just to give you a smile; my last car was a Hyundai Tuscon 2.7 V6 AWD and the LR3 uses virtually the same fuel around town as it did.

Mine's about the same as Mark's for fuel consumption, Peter. And it is a lot more fun to drive than the diesel - more responsive, no turbo lag, quieter. And, as the petrol engine has been around in the Ford camp for some time, it does not have the extended teething period that the diesel suffers from  Ex Defender 110 200Tdi owner.

I had a D3 Petrol V6 "loaner" while I was waiting to have my D3 TD returned to me after breaking down in the Kimberley.
The petrol D3 has a lot more go around town, but it does use more fuel. I averaged 16.5L/100 v 13 in the TD (around town).
I didn't do any country running but reports on this forum suggest 13 on a trip against 10 for my TD.
You can buy a lot of PULP for the $20,000 on-road price difference between a D3 SE Petrol And Diesel

I also have the V6 bought it March 07 replacing my 2001 diesel Disco, same as Mark under a lease could not justify the cost difference over four years.
Fuel consumption can very more so around town and how its been driven, “can tell if one of my sons has borrowed it by the fuel gauge†On the open road can not complain at all Geelong to Whittlesea last weekend 10.4 Lt/100, Geelong to Mt Baw Baw and return on Tuesday 12.4 Lt/100. And our trip across the Simpson from Mt Dare to Birdsville 638 klm 20Lt/100. The trip computer I would not say is completely accurate but is within .5 Lt/100
It will run well on standard unleaded but fuel consumption slightly better on Permian fuel over all love the power and love the vehicle

The decision criteria for diesel vs petrol for me went like this, pretty much in order
1) $11,000 cheaper - works out at over $2000 extra per year in lease cost
2) 500ks per tank is enough for me (I get about 15L/100ks driving around town) – if I were in the bush I’d want more range but its not an issue for me - even if the guy at the local servo now knows me by name.
3) Less noise - the new 07 diesel has a bit of a tappety sound
4) No turbo lag - some have mentioned this as an issue when approaching roundabouts
I don’t use PULP and find the performance to be fine (although I do put it in Sport to go up hills so it holds the gear longer)
All in all I’m very happy with my V6 4.0L – although that said I would like a TDV8 if anyone at Landrover is listening…

Sounds like the consumption with my V8. Only I get 300BHP 
Price was halfway between the V6 & the diseasel.

I’m a bit mythed. I have the straight 6 3lt diesel in the Rangy and my wife has the D3 V6 petrol and the Rangy leaves it for dead but she floors TDV6s.
Can anybody please explain why.
The TDV6 is a 6 slotter while my RR is a 5 slotter, as such the 6 speed would not have to work as hard.
Any clues, cheers. 2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

Well.. I'n not sure about the RR vs LR3 question.
I guess you would need to look at power to weight ratios of both vehicles. Is the LRD3 heavier?
As i say, don't know.

Lend the FFRR to me and I'll do some testing. I know it will be a sacrifice for me to do this, but sometimes you have to do things you don't want for the greater good.

Drove from Melbourne to Mt. Gambier earlier this year with my girl for 3 days and not much luggage. 95% cruise control at 96km/h indicated on TomTom One and 5% city driving. Pull out 11-11.5L/100KM. The V6 gave me 720km on one tank
It does around 18-20L/100KM in morning traffic, about 16L in mixed driving.  I uses PULP and very light right foot!

these consumption figures starting to look ok.
SE v6 starting to look OK
even doing 50k a year still going to take 3 years to justify the extra cost.
I'm sure the cost to service the V6 is far less than the TD6.

My TDV6 SE consistently returns 11l/100k in mixed driving. I drive it the same as any vehicle I have had, which means if overtaking needs to be done and the run gets me to 140k then so be it.
On 2 trips to perth (1500k each way), I returned and overall of 10.5l/100k. and you do the math...door to door over 1500k including stops, was 14hours. North of Geralton, we had the cruise set at 140k indicated which was GPS'd at 135K and sat at that for up to 4 hours straight with the air con on the whole way. The overall average also included a weeks worth of running in Perth.
This is not to say the petrol is thirsty, but I have yet to see anything worse than 11.5l/100k in any driving conditions.

Just did a trip from the Gold Coast to Noosa and back and the V6 averaged 10.3L/100kms for the highway leg, that's on regular unleaded not PULP.
Have to say the Disco eats up highways and is a most comfortable way to get to where you're going. I also found there was more than enough power to get away from some of the stranger drivers out there - judging by some of the behaviour I saw on the road I'm a bit fearfull of the spread of crystal meth through the QLD driving public - made for an interesting trip anyway.

Of course, if I have deep enough pocket, I would go for TDV6. The overall experience should be better.
I only drive my disco on weekends and long trips, that add up to only 10,000km to 13,000km a year. Plus I want 7 seats capability. So the petrol V6 a is more reasonable choice for me.
