^Those LR2s would be diesel. Personally, I’d stick with petrol, especially in the US.
Go for the LR3 V8, you’ll all be happy. None of my LRs (all petrol powered) have ever given me much grief. Biggest expense was a gearbox in an early, abused, high mileage Range Rover.
If it ever starts giving too much trouble, just trade it on the next cool thing! King of the typo.
MY11 D4 5.0 V8, Bournville, lots of goodies!
Now departed: '85 RR Vogue, '94 D1, '95 D1, '70 SIIA, '97 D1, '04 D2a. All V8, except for the SIIA - but that drank as much petrol anyway!

It’s oh so different in the UK now
Firstly, a lot of teenagers have no interest in cars and aren’t that bothered about driving and even if they were - to have the “old money” good taste to appreciate that an old LR3 is “cool” would be almost unheard of!
I’m so glad I’m not 17 now - unaffordable insurance, cars with the power of a food blender and prohibitive trading and testing costs.
Having said that, a decent FL2 would make a better starting point. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!
(One of only two known to exist in the world!)

Sorry, there may be confusion. I assumed an LR2 was a Disco 2 - in which case, a 4 cyl would be diesel, and a 6 cyl wouldn’t exist. Petrol would be V8, which is what I had.
However, it may be LR2 is a Freelander, which would be a different story! King of the typo.

Dr Google says it is indeed the Freelander 2. King of the typo.
