It may have, it's a long time since I went, I only suggested Sheffield as it is no to far from the OP.
Yeah I think it was closed down a fair few years ago.. a shame really..

They are apparently planning to restore the Sheffield ski village.
I'm spending the winter in Chamonix, well just outside. Just down the road is a place called Les Houches, and its a great beginners area. I spent the weekend giving snowboarding a go (its ) and the green runs were perfect beginner slopes.
