Here's another photo of the car, still can't get into the garage compound for interior shots and the like - they will come.

Ruben I always thought the ultimate would have been a D4 with the 5.0 V8 but apart from the odd one they didn’t sell them in Europe.

While the D4 might be slightly nicer from the inside and have more up-to-date ICE, the 4.4L V8 engine in the D3 is less troublesome than the 5.0L. In terms of output the added ~86 bhp is quite a lot, though, in favor for the 5.0L.

Is it? Didn’t know that. What goes wrong with the 5.0?

The American LR forums had a threads on this but basically some model years (the early ones I would imagine) had plastic timing chain tensioners, then after a few years someone figured out the problem and reinforced them with steel components. The Jaguar forums also had an interesting write up. The original change interval was something ridiculous like 50 k or 60 k miles. It also had some issues with the water pump.
I got the gist that people in the know thought the 4.4 was more reliable and required less maintenance but both V8s do have a very good reputation.

Thanks that’s interesting. Pondering replacing 2nd car ( Audi that’s been awesome for 275,000 miles ) with another LR or a V8 Jag so good to know.
