Paint Flaking Off Bumper on 2016 Disco 4
I have an issue with the paint flaking on one part of my bumper, I first noticed it in May this year and went to my dealer who submitted a warranty claim. After two independent paint inspection reports submitted, JLR have rejected my warranty claim.
The paint experts advise me that the plasticizer is absent and the paint is not adhering to the plastic as a consequence.
Apparently a few Disco 4s produced at the end of the manufacturing run in 2016 had this issue. Have any of you experienced the same issue and were you successful in a warranty claim?
Apart from this the car has been brilliant and an improvement in performance from my 2007 and 2013 Discos in both economy and acceleration.2016 D4 Landmark

did you buy the Disco as brand new or 2nd hand?
Believe it has been re-sprayed at some point if paint is flaking off!?
Have they told you (if 2nd hand) that bumper had been repainted in which case you have a case against the dealer....2005 D3 V8 SE

Slightly baffled as to why JLR have rejected the claim given the report and other occurrences? Suggests possible post-delivery re-paint I guess (i.e. not done in the factory)2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

On my screen it shows an area around the damage a different shade, anti-freeze or brake fluid can cause this type of damage, I agree it does not appear to have had the final lacquer coat.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

They have a massive issue with the worlds worst bumper supplier (Plastic Omnium).
Lots of Jags suffering this too.

Odd, surely a 2016 model must still be under JLR warranty, unless it’s had a repair previously as the previous posts suggest, maybe your own independent inspection is needed. Perhaps it’s easier and less frustrating to just get it fixed yourself,

Inspection, if it says there is a fault then give LR and supplying dealer one more chance to fix it, telling them you are taking action (letter before action).. If they still refuse get it repaired and take action against supplying dealer (you have no contract with JLR) through Small Claims Court. Key is getting an expert report that says there is a defect.

How can they possibly reject a warranty claim for that?
Mind you, I have an issue with rust on various bits of my MY16 which I'm having to take up with LR customer service due to warranty refusal MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

That's simple. They have a perforation warranty rather than rust warranty. It has to be pretty bad for their warranty to apply.

Thanks for all your replies and understanding.
I originally went through my local Godalming service agent who have treated me well over the past 10 years. Sadly they were taken over by Hunters in Guildford.
I have now gone back to the supplying dealer in Thames Ditton via the salesman who sold me the car new. He is taking it up with their service department, I guess I should have gone to them first as they will have more ownership to sort out the problem. I have bought three cars off them new, in 4 years so they should treat me well.
I have also emailed JLR customer service, what good that will do, I do not know, but it helps me vent frustration.
I went to a good paint shop we have used a few times In Guildford and I am waiting for a quote as a back-up, if I am totally let down by dealers and JLR. They suspected the car may have paint applied outside the factory.
I have considered the letter before action and small claims court route, thats last resort. I have successfully used that route in the past for pothole damage to a Mercedes.
I do wonder if the car was damaged before it was supplied to me and a rush patch up job was done, has been known.
I will keep you posted on the outcome.2016 D4 Landmark

Build date was 13-Feb-2016, I took delivery at the end of June, so it had been hanging about a bit.
