That's supposed to be for child safety reasons though

My stop/start failed but after a regular overnight charge it would operate as normal - not a permanent solution so returned to the dealer.

Battery was showing as just "within required tolerance" and initially dismissed as the problem.

However as a last resort the by then 14 month old battery was replaced by the dealer and this fixed the issue instantly Thumbs Up

Well, you can only turn the passenger one off if fitting a child seat, you can’t disable the whole system.

I really can’t see how they could make the start/stop system part of the mot, there’s just to many variables that can stop it from working anyway!!

BBdisco3, which battery was replaced, the main one or the secondary little one?

It was the main battery which was replaced - didn't appreciate until I just checked that this was as long ago as June, and (touch wood) it has been fine since Thumbs Up

Thanks, good news then!

Not sure I’ll convince the dealer to fit a new battery though Sad

Many thanks, if needed I’ll let you know!
I’ve spoken to them extensively about it as it’s only got 9 days left on the LR warranty so wanted it sorting. I asked if they would fit a new battery but they say it’s not it at fault, in fact they can’t find anything wrong so have put it down to the fact it mostly does short trips and it’s not getting a full charge all the time.

Stop-start is definitely not an MOT tested item at present. We have it on our Mini and that stopped working about 2 years ago and passed MOT both times. I have never bothered to have it fixed as SWMBO hated it anyway. Strangely she quite likes it on her XC60. That has an info screen that tells you why the Stop-start is not working (all the common ones anyway - low battery, air conditioning on, seat-belt unplugged, door open, etc.), which is quite reassuring as it does not seem to function all that much and I always look to see why. My D4 does not have it which I am quite glad about.

my Stop start has been pretty random also, been to dealers a while ago they said done software update and boosted battery but still random, (I don’t want to tempt fate) BUT I decided I was going to connect a comfort lead a couple days ago and noticed some corrosion on negative terminal (small stop/start battery) gave it good clean and it’s been working good as gold since, although it is early days but hasn’t worked this good since owned it. Worth a try to clean terminals Thumbs Up

As the car is still under the manufacturers warranty, then they have a legal responsibility to put right any faults. If they can't/won't fix it, then they have to sort you out with another car, as Red Merle says, an AVC seems to be the most sensible solution to allow you to move on.

As I have reported before..... my MY16s stop/start (S/S) has been very random since new. Hadn't been working for many weeks when reported at last service (some weeks back......) ..... they carried out service and said I would have to book it back in for the S/S - can't be arsed TBO!!

After a 400 mile return trip up country - all working again - even a few weeks later with just my usual short local trips. It won't last of course ....... Rolling Eyes - until the next long trip replenishes whatever needs to be replenished?

I have done a few 400 mile or so round trips its still the same, apparantly there is a concern something is not shutting down when it should thats why they want it for a week

It got to the stage that even after several 400 miles trips and using the charger overnight I couldn't get the stop start to work again - the new (main) battery was the answer Thumbs Up
