Hey everybody, my very first post here.
I have a 2010 lr4 hse, from usa. Recently my son threw my one and only key fob in the toilet and it stopped working. tried replacing the battery, blow drying but nothing got it to work.
Im still able to start the car with key fob under the steering wheel.
I bought two ebay remotes for lr4 and iidtool bt off ebay. Got the iidtool working but wasn't able to program the key fob using the procedures in the app. it said key couldnt be program, i might need a working key fob for it to program because it had to shut the engine and also start it but wasnt able to because it didn't detect a key fob. But it let me still go through process of programming the remote.
Please help me, i wanted to avoid the dealer by programming myself but this is not looking good.

Pretty sure you need a working key fob to copy the settings over to the new one

I agree, I would say you need at least one working fob.

Also, a lot of the fobs on ebay are the wrong working frequency
You need one at 434 MHz not the 315 MHz that are sold on there as well. Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem

er ... when my car was nicked, I had one fob about 6 miles away and the other was locked in the safe at the dealers'.
so I DON'T think you need a fob to be present, working or otherwise. .

It’s always possible the perps used a program to nick your code at some point without you being aware and transferred it to another fob or similar to allow the car to be driven away.

Thanks for the suggestions and input.
If i need a working fob present while programming, thats impossible for me because i only received one fob when i bought the car which is now broken.
Any other way to get a fob programmed?
If not i will need to go to the dealer

The only way I know of is finding an independent with an auto-logic diagnostic unit or similar, I’m pretty sure that the information can be transferred to a new key fob, or as a last resort contact your Nearest LR dealer give them the VIN code and possibly your registration details etc to show your genuine and they will supply you with a key, then make a spare

i finally got the new key fobs to work using the broken key fob to program.
Apparently the brand new key fobs had dead batteries installed. Unbelievable.
I used the iidtool bt and programmed 2 new key fobs. Now im wondering is there a way to delete the previous keys?

Well done sorting this out, I might be lost here, I thought you didn’t have any other keys, if your worried about the old useless one that fell down the pan take the battery out and knock feck out of it with a hammer until it’s in total bits, doubt if it will be any use after that.
Remember and wear safety glasses if your that way inclined or wrap the old key up in a cloth before you set about it, wait until somebody really annoys you then take it out on the key works wonders

Great idea on giving the old remote a good beating. That was my one and only fob before. Im just concern the previous owner might still have the extra key fob which he claimed he has lost. But I'm not that worried aince i had the car for 2years already. Thanks guys, going try to stay active on this forum.

Hi Itrains, don’t think there’s much you can do about changing the code as it’s imbedded in and specific to your vehicle without having it completely erased and redone, always a worry but if 2 years have passed I think your safe.
Glad you got it all sorted in the end, pretty cold here in Scotland, -2c this morning.
All the best
