I’m sure you know this but British Atlantic has a video on how to do it. I looked at it last year when I thought the funky smell was the alternator (but it was the stuck caliper).

Oh hell, major beakdown.
Just been brought home on a breakdown truck.
Left the house to go visit my mum, 2 miles away, 100M down the road noticed sat-nav screen flicking on and off. Thought maybe it was just a glitch I'd sort later. Then a further 1/2mile and all the systems started failing, one after the other. Finally, when stoped at lights she died totally, 20M from a major junction. Rain tipping down and drivers window open wide and won't go back up so you can imagine what happened. To top it all off SWIMBO in passenger seat giving me grief as they do, LOL.
Ended up getting the AA out, who confirmed my worst fears - alternator not putting out a charge. So with his power pack connected up we managed to move to a safe location and had to wait for the tow truck. In all just short of 2 hours before we got home, cold and in my case wet.
Now to order and fit a new alternator.
It's times like this I say, "Thank god I've got a V8 and not a diesel"

New alternator fitted, out and in in 1 hour and everything running 'sweet-as-a-nut'. Such an easy job in the 4.4 V8.

Hello all,
After my engine debacle (https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/another-one-recovery-wagon-176842.html) I have joined the v8 gang!
2005 black HSE.
Had it a month now, best pleased.
Old and new.
Only one question, has anyone experienced pulsing revs on idle?
