How to drain tank

Just got my self a rrs from having a disco3. I suspect it has red diesel in it was bought from a farmer. Is the sender unit under the back seat on the 2.7 rrs as I could syphon it from there there is nearly a full tank and don't want to risk driving it thanks.

Just fuel up and get VAT receipts, it'll be gone in no time. I wouldnt even worry about that.

I no but it's booked in for a full service as it's running poor probs partially blocked fuel filter. Hence why I think it's been run on unfiltered red farm diesel. If they pull filter off and red diesel pours out what you think they would say lol.

no you can't get it in under the seat.

You could just be honest with them and say it was purchased like that. Seams the best idea.

or replace the filter yourself, but unlikely to fix the problem straight away

If I remove the filter is there a way to get fuel out. Just don't want to fit new fuel filter and pump bad fuel back through it. Why carnt it be syphoned from tank filler neck

You probably can get it out from the filler neck

give it a go.

It an 82 litre tank I think.

And once going you will need to jack the front of the car up to help get the fuel out

There is an anti-syphon valve in the tank

Only way to drain it is to lower the back of the tank and open the valve manually. But even then, around 10 litres will still be in the tank unless, you take it right out and stand it on its end

Get a receipt from the seller, and keep ALL fuel receipts as evidence should you get stopped

For all a fuel filter costs, I'd replace it a few times over the next few thousand miles Thumbs Up

The garage wont care. When police dip a tank they just drop a pipe in and draw some up and see what colour it is, they dont start doing crazy tests. A tank will go in no time. Chill

Well car has cut out and will not start. No warning lights on dash. It cranks over but doesn't even try to fire. Connected fault code reader can see modules and get data but when I scan them I just get error it's as if canbus has shut them down any ideas ppl.

Agriculture diesel is as pure and as good quality as Road diesel, do you think a farmer would put contaminated, inferior or dirty fuel in a £150,000 tractor?- unless you know more than you are saying. Niether will they risk having their vehicle impounded and crushed for the sake of saving a few £'s.
Disco's will not run on bio- diesel or ex-chip shop oil!

If I new more than I was saying I would just say contaminated fuel not red. I've got nothing to hide agricultural plant have a lot better protection than plg vehicles they have inline filters aswell as large fuel filters. Trust me I'm a plant fitter.

Have you checked that fuel is being pumped correctly - basically have you looked if the HPFP belt is ok, there is fuel getting to all the relevant places?

There is no fuel getting to engine the bleed valve has no fuel or pressure. So I'm thinking it's the pump in tank as that would still supply fuel to engine and prime up some pressure? So either blocked fuel filter or lift pump has failed. But when plugged in fault code reader and scan it finds modules but scan them says error. Anybody no if only land rover specified readers can connect to land rover vehicles. As I'm thinking maybe a module has gone down on the high canbus line causing it to shut down all systems any ideas ppl. Thanks for advice

Some of the generic readers are not reliable in communicating with the modules, so what model are you using on your RRS?

Have you checked the LPFP fuse?

Here is a thread from avery knowledgeable guy on the pump:

Take the fuel filter off or filter input pipe and turn the engine on fo a few seconds, if you've got a good flow of diesel the problem is not in the tank, you will also find out what colour it is and you could empty the tank there if necessary.
